Liverpool exploring emergency £75 million January move as Arne Slot hits the panic button…
Liverpool is considering an urgent £75 million move this January as Arne Slot presses the panic button.
The club is contemplating a daring January acquisition of Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, prompted by Mohamed Salah’s recent decline in performance, which has led the recruitment team to seek immediate reinforcements, as reported by iNews.
Both Tottenham and Manchester United monitored the Ghanaian international during the last transfer window, but now Liverpool appears to be the frontrunner to secure the services of the in-form 25-year-old.
Importantly, the schedule for the Africa Cup of Nations could influence the situation; while Salah is expected to lead Egypt in the tournament, Ghana did not qualify, allowing Semenyo to remain available for a busy league and cup schedule throughout January.
Salah’s performance levels are renowned for their excellence, yet even slight declines are amplified at a club with Liverpool’s aspirations.
Liverpool aims to address the potential impact of Salah’s absence.
With the Reds managing commitments in the Premier League, domestic cups, and European competitions, the possibility of losing their main right-sided threat to international duty raises significant concerns.
This is where Semenyo comes into play. The Bournemouth forward has transformed into a high-energy and direct wide player, showcasing impressive goal-scoring ability and overall attacking prowess this season.
He notably scored twice against Liverpool at Anfield on the opening day of the Premier League season.
Versatile enough to operate on either wing and capable of playing centrally, he has taken his game to new heights this season, currently ranking as the second top scorer in the league with six goals, trailing only Erling Haaland.
These qualities have not gone unnoticed. Spurs and United scouted him in the previous transfer window, and iNews reports that Liverpool is now considering a deal that could amount to £75 million.
