Proposal for a swap transfer involving Alexander Isak to Liverpool, along with Eddie Howe’s surprising news and Arne Slot’s visit.

We reflect on the entire Alexander Isak transfer saga from this summer, which seems to be nearing its conclusion just before Newcastle’s exciting match against Liverpool on Monday.

The speculation surrounding Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle, whether he will stay or depart the north east after three seasons, has been a major topic in the news this summer.

This transfer saga has seen it all, from the 25-year-old’s refusal to train and shocking public comments to frustrated fans confronting him to express their opinions.

With just over a week left in the transfer window, one thing is evident: Isak does not plan to play for Newcastle again.

Liverpool, who had a £110 million offer for him turned down earlier this month, remain interested in acquiring him and seem to be his most probable destination.

Nonetheless, it is uncertain if they will make a second offer that approaches Newcastle’s £150 million asking price to persuade them to sell.

Here, Mirror Football provides all the updates you might have missed regarding the Isak saga, including the latest developments.

Lineker mocks Shearer regarding the ‘swap deal’.

There is a strong argument that Newcastle was fully aware of Isak’s wish to leave St James’ Park this summer and had identified several players as potential replacements should he depart.

Joao Pedro was one of those targets, with the Magpies having a £50 million bid rejected for the Brazilian, before Chelsea intervened with a superior offer to secure his services.

The Blues also successfully acquired another of Eddie Howe’s targets, Liam Delap, who opted to join the Stamford Bridge club.

Newcastle then shifted their focus to Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike, who is also being sought after by Liverpool, despite their interest in Isak.

Newcastle was unsuccessful in that race as well, reportedly having a £70m offer turned down while the Frenchman opted for his preferred club in a £79m transfer.

Subsequently, the Magpies management hurried to secure Benjamin Sesko, submitting a second bid of £69.7m before the Slovenian decided on Manchester United.

Pundit Gary Lineker highlighted Newcastle’s frustrations during the latest episode of The Rest Is Football podcast, humorously suggesting to Alan Shearer: “Why not propose a swap deal? For Ekitike. Just to stir the pot a bit.” Shearer could only roll his eyes and let out a puzzled laugh, responding: “Oh, God.”

Is there no way back for Isak?

In July, amid rising speculation regarding Isak’s future, the forward was absent from the club’s pre-season tour in Asia.

As transfer rumors intensified and reports emerged suggesting that the Swede was pushing for a move, Isak was excluded from Newcastle’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa last weekend.

They could only secure a 0-0 draw against a team reduced to 10 men, while Isak’s own supporters directed derogatory chants at him, calling him “greedy.”

Earlier this week, Isak finally spoke out with a shocking statement, asserting that the club had “broken promises,” implying that he may not play for them again.

Despite Newcastle issuing a statement of their own indicating they would welcome Isak back “when he’s ready to rejoin his team-mates,” Wayne Rooney believes the situation has escalated to a level of toxicity that indicates all connections have been severed.

On his new BBC podcast, The Wayne Rooney Show, he stated: “If I were a Newcastle player, I wouldn’t want Isak back. You can’t go on strike, skip training, and then expect to train with your team-mates.

Whether you want to leave the club or not, you must be there for your team-mates and be prepared if called upon. In my opinion, I don’t see any way back for Isak at Newcastle.

Arne Slot is scheduled to visit St James’ Park on Monday for the match between Liverpool and Newcastle. With the ongoing transfer sagas of Isak and Ekitike, the game is anticipated to be intense.

However, it seems unlikely that he will confront Isak, as both Lineker and Shearer predict he will avoid the drama.

On The Rest Is Football, Lineker remarked: “The fixture list sometimes does this beautifully, doesn’t it? Newcastle vs Liverpool.

Of course it is,” to which Shearer responded: “Monday night, I’ll be at the match as well.”

When Lineker inquired if Shearer believed Isak would attend, Shearer answered: “No, do you?” The former Match of the Day presenter added: “Not a chance,” bursting into laughter.

Shearer elaborated on how Isak’s transfer saga would heighten the tensions during the match, stating: “It’ll be an incredible atmosphere.

It’s a bit tasty anyway, Newcastle Liverpool, so it’s a bit of added spice I think, don’t you?”

The Magpies manager provided a new update on Friday, indicating that the end of the Isak transfer speculation is near.

He did not clarify whether this meant the forward would be departing or remaining, but he expressed regret over how the situation has unfolded.

“He won’t be part of the squad this weekend,” Howe stated in a press conference prior to Newcastle’s game against Liverpool.

“The club must act in the best interests of Newcastle United. It will do so in every circumstance. It appears that it is nearing a conclusion, or it will conclude quite soon.”

Regarding Newcastle’s statement, he commented: “It was a sad moment. I prefer that these matters do not occur publicly. They are better resolved behind closed doors. But needs must. The club has spoken, and rightly so in that moment.

“He is contracted to us. He is our player. I wish he would be playing on Monday. Unfortunately, he won’t be, and that is regrettable.

However, I want him back in a Newcastle shirt 100 percent. It’s a lose-lose situation. I don’t believe we can emerge from this victorious in any scenario.
