Liverpool Champions League draw revealed in full as Trent Alexander-Arnold reunion confirmed

Latest updates from Liverpool FC as Arne Slot’s team learns their Champions League opponents following the league phase draw held in Monaco on Thursday evening.

Liverpool has discovered their route to the Champions League knockout stages as Arne Slot’s squad aims for a seventh title in Europe’s premier tournament.

The Reds will once again face Real Madrid, with Trent Alexander-Arnold set to confront his former club after transferring to Spain this summer.

Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Eintracht Frankfurt, PSV Eindhoven, Marseille, Qarabag, and Galatasaray comprise the Reds’ eight Champions League matches.

The schedule will be announced before Saturday, clarifying the outlook for the campaign, as Liverpool seeks to defend their Premier League title successfully.

New signing Hugo Ekitike will meet his old team Frankfurt, while there will be a repeat of last season’s group stage clash against PSV Eindhoven, who transferred Cody Gakpo to Liverpool in 2023.

Alexander-Arnold will make his return to Anfield following his high-profile departure in the summer.

The full-back allowed his contract to expire before Los Blancos paid £10 million to release him early for their Club World Cup preparations in July.

Liverpool triumphed 2-0 over the record Champions League holders last November, with Alexis Mac Allister and Gakpo scoring.

Former midfielder Xabi Alonso will also return to Anfield, this time in charge of the Spanish giants, after leading Bayer Leverkusen last season.

Atletico Madrid and last season’s Eredivisie champions PSV will also come to Anfield, along with Azerbaijani underdogs Qarabag.

There are exciting away matches ahead, with the Reds set to return to the San Siro.

Ekitike will revisit Frankfurt following his transfer from the Bundesliga side this summer, and there are also trips planned to France and Turkey.

In his first season on Merseyside, Dutchman Slot guided Liverpool to an unbeaten Group Phase in the revamped competition. Nevertheless, they were eliminated in the Round of 16 after a penalty shootout against the eventual champions, Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool’s Premier League competitors, Chelsea, will take on Bayern Munich, Atalanta, Napoli, and Qarabag at Stamford Bridge.

They will also visit Barcelona, Benfica, Ajax, and the Cypriot team Pafos.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will welcome Real, Villarreal, Bodo/Glimt, and Monaco. In contrast, they will have challenging away matches against Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Napoli, and Galatasaray.

Title contenders Arsenal will host Inter, Club Brugge, Slavia Praha, and Athletic Club. They will make trips to Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Olumpiacos, and Kairat Almaty – who historically eliminated Celtic on penalties yesterday.
