Liverpool is favored to acquire Semenyo over Manchester City for a specific reason.

As per a reliable source on X, Liverpool is currently ahead in the competition against Manchester City to secure Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo.

Manchester City may need to part ways with a high-profile player before they can sign Semenyo. Should that occur, many believe Liverpool will continue to be the leading contenders for the Ghanaian’s signature.

City’s interest in Semenyo is evident, with a £65 million release clause set to activate in January, presenting them with a chance to enhance their attacking lineup as they pursue trophies.

Semenyo, 25, has already received acclaim this season for his performances with Bournemouth.

Manchester City trails Liverpool in the pursuit of Semenyo.

However, the management at the Etihad seems to regard such a signing as a considerable financial undertaking.

Some within City reportedly think that selling a high-value current player, a “marquee” signing, would be essential to balance the costs and adhere to financial regulations or wage structure strategies.

This implies that, for the time being, Semenyo’s potential move to Manchester may hinge less on sporting aspirations and more on a complicated balancing act behind the scenes.

In the meantime, Liverpool is consistently being identified as the top candidates to acquire Semenyo, and their edge may not solely be related to finances or timing.

Richard Hughes, who is now part of Liverpool, previously served as the technical director at Bournemouth. He maintains a strong relationship with Semenyo’s club, which could also provide the Reds with an advantage in signing the Premier League forward.

Given Liverpool’s requirement for attacking reinforcements, particularly in light of possible squad changes and their financial strength remaining robust from recent transfer windows, they seem to be in an excellent position.

Semenyo has garnered interest from elite clubs.

This season, Semenyo has emerged as one of the breakout stars in the Premier League. Versatile on either wing or in a central role, the 25-year-old possesses the qualities of speed, finishing ability, and the capacity to challenge defenses with his unpredictability.

Even if City activates Semenyo’s release clause, there are still multiple hurdles to overcome. The necessity to offload a key player could postpone or hinder negotiations, particularly considering the current congested state of the squad.

Bournemouth might not obstruct Semenyo’s move in January if a club activates his clause, despite having turned down offers for him during the summer transfer window.
