Liverpool is seeking an invincible player with 33 goals/assists since the 2023/24 season to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, and they are prepared to pay a multi-million release clause, according to reports.
Liverpool is prepared to activate the £34.7 million release clause for Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong, whom they have identified as a potential successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The England international has not indicated any intention to extend his contract with Liverpool beyond the current season, prompting the club to prioritize Frimpong as a key target for replacement.
At just 23 years old, Frimpong was a vital member of the Leverkusen squad that achieved an unbeaten Bundesliga title last season, and Liverpool has taken note of his impressive performances.
Since last season, the Netherlands international has contributed to 33 goals, scoring 15 and providing 18 assists across all competitions.
In the 2022-23 season, he also recorded nine goals and 11 assists, and he may be eager to return to the Premier League after not making a first-team appearance for Manchester City during his nine years in their academy.
Liverpool has become a desirable destination for top talent in Europe, currently sitting five points clear at the top of the Premier League after 11 matches.
Additionally, they lead their Champions League group with four consecutive victories in the opening matches.
While the club is keen to persuade Alexander-Arnold to sign a contract extension, the outlook appears challenging, necessitating preparations for a future without their homegrown talent.
Finding an ideal replacement may be difficult, but Frimpong has demonstrated his capabilities in the Bundesliga, making him a strong candidate to take over from the Liverpool star at Anfield.
The affordable release clause is a significant advantage for the Reds; however, they are not the sole major club monitoring the Dutch player.
Manager Arne Slot must persuade his fellow countryman that transferring to Liverpool would be the optimal decision for his career.
