Leeds United discover the likelihood of acquiring a striker with 93 goals following an ‘offer’ as connections to a Scottish player arise.

Leeds United is confronted with a challenging task in convincing Santiago Gimenez to abandon AC Milan, especially after his father made a significant statement. This comes despite reports indicating that intermediaries are exploring the possibility of facilitating a transfer for the striker to the Premier League.

The Mexican forward established a strong reputation as a top-tier goalscorer while developing his skills under Arne Slot at Feyenoord, where he netted an impressive 65 goals in 105 matches. His outstanding performance led to a lucrative transfer to AC Milan in February 2025, where he signed for €32m (£28m, $37.5m) on a contract lasting until the summer of 2029.

Unfortunately, his stint in Italy has not produced the results that either side anticipated, with only seven goals scored in 30 appearances thus far.

In light of this, and considering that a change of environment might be beneficial for all involved, sources informed TEAMtalk last week that intermediaries representing the striker have proposed him to potential Premier League clubs, including Leeds and West Ham.

Currently, these intermediaries are reaching out to assess interest from English clubs, which we have been told is an effort to generate interest, despite Gimenez’s camp refuting suggestions that he is contemplating a departure.

On the other hand, AC Milan is reportedly looking into possible enhancements for their attacking options, with Parma’s Mateo Pellegrino and Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee – who remains a compelling choice due to his performance at Bologna – being two names on their radar.

Moreover, Gimenez’s father has also retracted previous statements suggesting that a transfer might be imminent.

“Santi holds a deep affection for Milan, so he is living his dream,” his father stated during an appearance on the Vamos Show podcast on YouTube.

I possess photographs of Santi at ages six and nine, both times donning the Milan jersey. Additionally, I still have a Milan jacket that he wore when he turned 10 years old.

“Santi is eager to remain with Milan. This club holds significant importance, and he is expected to perform at his highest level. He is very content here, despite receiving numerous offers from Saudi Arabia and other places; when Milan expressed interest, he made it clear that he only wished to join them.”

Leeds is pursuing a deal for the Scotland midfielder.

While a potential transfer for Gimenez was always a long shot, we have learned that the Whites are actively seeking to bolster their attacking options in January. The club is considering both another striker and ideally, an additional creative player who can operate in the No.10 position or on the right wing.

The unsuccessful attempts to secure either Facundo Buonanotte or Harry Wilson during the summer significantly impacted Daniel Farke’s strategy, leaving the Whites with a challenging conclusion to the transfer window.

There will be some funds available to address this in January, even though managing director Robbie Evans downplayed such possibilities shortly after the summer window closed.

According to the Daily Mail, Leeds is also exploring a deal for the emerging Scottish talent Josh Mulligan, who recently earned his first call-up to the Scotland national team following an impressive streak of performances with Hibs.

The 23-year-old joined Hibs in June, signing a four-year contract, and his dynamic performances in midfield have quickly attracted attention. Scouts from both Leeds and Nottingham Forest have been monitoring him due to his outstanding displays.

As per the report from the well-informed Simon Jones, it is suggested that both clubs are open to a potential deal in January and have reached out to the Edinburgh club to understand their requirements.

Mulligan has recently been summoned to join Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad.

Although he remained an unused substitute in the latest match against Belarus, he is optimistic that a lucrative transfer could propel him into consideration for next summer’s major event in the United States.
