Liverpool is currently negotiating to sign Sunderland’s Lutsharel Geertruida ahead of the transfer deadline on Monday, according to GIVEMESPORT.

The Reds are reportedly working to bring manager Arne Slot together with the Dutch right-back, following their previous collaboration at Eredivisie club Feyenoord.

In light of a recent injury to Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool is seeking a new wide defender, while Conor Bradley is out for the remainder of the season.

Dominik Szoboszlai filled in at right-back for the missing players during Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Newcastle, which marked the end of Liverpool’s five-match winless run in the Premier League.

Liverpool Pursues Lutsharel Geertruida

As per GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs, Liverpool is exploring the possibility of signing the player currently on loan from RB Leipzig, having been granted the chance to initiate discussions.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also tweeted that the Reds have made initial contacts regarding a late transfer for Geertruida, who could potentially join before Monday’s deadline.

Geertruida recently joined Sunderland on loan from RB Leipzig at the start of the season and has already made 17 appearances in the Premier League, including 10 starts.

Liverpool may soon see Geertruida become their fourth club in just 24 months, as the wide defender only transferred to RB Leipzig from Feyenoord in the summer of 2024.

The 25-year-old dedicated the first six years of his professional career to Feyenoord, three of which were spent under Slot, who guided the Dutch team to the Eredivisie title in the 2022/23 season.

Geertruida was Slot’s most utilized player during the 47-year-old’s tenure at Feyenoord, making 127 appearances under the Liverpool manager, netting 16 goals and providing nine assists.

Liverpool Engages in Talks for Denzel Dumfries.

Liverpool is actively seeking a new right-back and has engaged in preliminary discussions regarding a potential transfer for Denzel Dumfries, the defender from Inter Milan.

Nevertheless, a last-minute acquisition of the Dutch player seems improbable at this time, as Inter is reluctant to permit Dumfries to depart on loan during the ongoing season.

Reports indicate that Liverpool has had direct talks with the Serie A club, but they are not currently pursuing a transfer for the defender, who is expected to be out for approximately two weeks due to an injury.

Dumfries was instrumental in securing the Serie A title for Inter in the 2023/24 season and has also won the Coppa Italia twice.
