It has been suggested that Jurgen Klopp’s departure from Liverpool could unintentionally hinder Xabi Alonso’s potential move to the club.

Following Klopp’s announcement, there has been speculation that the former Liverpool midfielder could be a strong candidate to take charge at Anfield in the upcoming summer.

Alonso currently manages Bayer Leverkusen, leading them to a ten-point advantage over Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga standings without a single loss this season.

Despite this, there is a possibility of a battle between Liverpool and Bayern for his services, especially with Thomas Tuchel’s impending departure from Bayern.

According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Bayern has already had promising talks with Alonso. The 42-year-old seems to prefer joining Bayern due to concerns about the risk of following in Klopp’s footsteps at Liverpool.

Plettenberg informed the publication that Bayern is aware that if Alonso decides to move, he will choose Bayern over Liverpool.

Alonso mentioned that Liverpool and the legacy of Klopp pose a challenging task to succeed. The risk of losing more than winning is high.

During his nine-and-a-half years at Merseyside, Klopp has achieved success by winning the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, two League Cups, and a Club World Cup.

Allegedly, Alonso’s departure could cost Bayern between £13million and £21million due to a fixed clause in his Leverkusen contract.

The final amount depends on the number of trophies Bayern wins this season, with a Bundesliga, German Cup, and Europa League treble still within reach.

Leverkusen is set to resume their Europa League campaign in the last-16 stage against Qarabag on Thursday.

In addition, they are scheduled to face Fortuna Dusseldorf in the German Cup semi-finals next month.
