Jurgen Klopp discusses why Liverpool may be ‘at risk of being exposed’ under Arne Slot

‘A risk’… Jurgen Klopp raises concerns about Arne Slot’s risky tactics at Liverpool that leave them ‘vulnerable’

Jurgen Klopp has articulated his belief that Liverpool is ‘at risk of being exposed’ under Arne Slot. Since the Dutch manager’s arrival in England, his tenure has been nearly flawless.

He led Liverpool to the Premier League title last season and kicked off this campaign with an impressive streak of seven consecutive victories across all competitions.

However, the first signs of trouble emerged at Selhurst Park on Saturday when Crystal Palace defeated the Reds 2-1, prompting Klopp to sound the alarm with his insights.

Klopp’s candid evaluation

Klopp, now observing from a distance, refrained from direct criticism but emphasized that the high-energy style under Slot creates opportunities for opponents to take advantage.

In a conversation with The Athletic, he remarked: “[Man] City is on the way back, they change a little bit. Managers need that as well… a new perspective to keep things fresh. Liverpool is playing a specific (style), so really, really good.

Very offensive oriented. Do they take the risk a little bit of being exposed? Different ways to go, let me say it like that. I’m not the pope of football who tells people what to do. At least not outside the Red Bull world.”

Cautionary signals for the champions

With seven victories in seven matches in 2025-26, along with last season’s championship, it is clear that Slot has made significant progress.

Nevertheless, opponents will sense an opportunity if they perceive Liverpool as susceptible during set pieces. Selhurst Park provided the first real indication of that vulnerability.

Liverpool is set to travel to Turkey on Tuesday night to take on Galatasaray in a Champions League encounter that now appears to be a test of Slot’s fortitude.

However, one thing is certain: Klopp’s remarks will resonate strongly if Liverpool displays the same frailties in Istanbul during dead-ball situations.
