Jamie Carragher expresses outrage over incident in Crystal Palace vs Arsenal match that he believes should be prohibited in football.

Carragher was clearly displeased.

Jamie Carragher was visibly upset by a particular incident during Arsenal’s Premier League match against Crystal Palace, asserting that it should be eliminated from the game entirely.

Arsenal entered halftime with a 3-1 lead at Selhurst Park, thanks to two goals from Gabriel Jesus.

These goals marked the Brazilian’s first Premier League strikes since a victory over Nottingham Forest back in January.

Ismaila Sarr had previously equalized for Palace with a shot from 18 yards out.

However, Carragher was particularly critical of a blunder made by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya just moments before the goal, as he lost possession of the ball.

Raya, receiving the ball within his own penalty area, attempted a direct pass to an Arsenal teammate but ended up giving it away.

Carragher was incensed by this mistake, insisting that goalkeepers should be prohibited from making straight passes altogether.

He stated: “Goalkeepers should not be allowed to play straight balls. They must distribute it wide and create an angle.

“This is the most problematic passing in football – a goalkeeper executing a straight pass. The number of goals conceded in the Premier League due to this is alarming. It needs to change.”

Arsenal secured a third goal before the break, with Kai Havertz scoring from close range after a save by Dean Henderson.

Despite some defensive vulnerabilities, Mikel Arteta’s team aimed to maintain pressure on Premier League leaders Liverpool, who were set to play on Sunday, by securing three points at Selhurst Park.

They began the evening in fourth place following Nottingham Forest’s earlier victory over Brentford, but a win would elevate them to third, just one point behind Chelsea, who have a game in hand.

The quality of passing in football has reached a concerning low, particularly when a goalkeeper opts for a direct pass. The frequency of goals conceded in the Premier League due to this practice is alarming and must be addressed.

Arsenal concluded the first half with a third goal from Kai Havertz, who scored from close range after Dean Henderson made a save.

It was not the most favorable half for Mikel Arteta’s team, as they faced several defensive lapses. However, the Gunners aim to maintain pressure on Premier League leaders Liverpool, who are set to play on Sunday, by securing three points at Selhurst Park.

They began the evening in fourth place following Nottingham Forest’s victory over Brentford earlier in the day. A win would elevate them back to third place, just one point behind Chelsea, who have played one game fewer.
