Injury expert predicts how long Gabriel will miss for Arsenal after limping off in Brazil vs Senegal…
Injury specialist forecasts the duration Gabriel will be sidelined for Arsenal after he limped off during Brazil’s match against Senegal.
An injury specialist has provided an update regarding Arsenal’s center-back Gabriel, who was substituted during Brazil’s 2-0 victory over Senegal on Saturday due to an injury.
The defender experienced discomfort while sprinting back to defend during the international friendly held at the Emirates Stadium.
He was immediately replaced following the incident and appeared to be in significant pain, leading to speculation that he may have sustained a groin injury, as he was seen gripping the upper part of his right leg.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti commented after the match that he was uncertain about the injury’s severity and that further evaluations would take place on Sunday. He stated: “Bad? I don’t know, he had an issue with his adductor, the medical team will need to assess it tomorrow.
We are truly sorry about this, very disappointed; when players get injured, I hope they can recover quickly and effectively.”
Injury Expert Evaluates Gabriel’s Condition.
While Arteta awaits more information from the assessments scheduled for tomorrow, injury expert Physio Scout has shared their insights regarding the possible injury.
Their evaluation indicated that injuries located closer to the hip are generally more serious, and while most players typically return within one to three weeks, a more severe injury could result in an extended recovery period.
“Injuries to the groin and hamstrings that are proximal (closer to the hip) are usually more alarming than those further down the muscle,” they noted.
“Most groin issues tend to be minor, with players returning in 1–3 weeks, but the fact that he’s experiencing pain higher up makes me more cautious and increases the likelihood of a Grade 2+ injury.”
A Grade 2 injury could keep Gabriel out for three to six weeks. Conversely, a Grade 3 groin injury could sideline him for six to eight weeks, or possibly longer.
This situation raises significant concerns regarding the Brazilian’s availability for Arsenal’s upcoming match against their north London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, following the international break.
Additionally, the Gunners face a challenging series of fixtures against Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Brentford, and Aston Villa thereafter.
Gabriel’s potential absence for these matches would be a considerable setback for Arteta, given his impressive performance in the first 11 league games of the season.
Having played a total of 990 minutes, he has netted one goal and provided two assists, playing a crucial role in their set-piece strategies.
His strong form has positioned Arsenal as favorites for the Premier League title this season.
Currently, the Gunners hold 26 points, leading second-placed Manchester City by four points. In Gabriel’s absence, Arteta is expected to rely on Cristhian Mosquera, with Piero Hincapie also being a possible alternative for the north London side.
Brazil ‘Were Attempting to Manage Gabriel’s Workload’
After the match, additional details emerged indicating that Gabriel had been warming up separately from the rest of Brazil’s squad on Friday. As reported by Sky Sports News, the national team was attempting to manage his workload due to his extensive playing time in recent weeks.
Despite being cognizant of the defender’s fitness concerns, Ancelotti opted to include him in the match, a decision that has angered Arsenal supporters who view it as an unnecessary risk taken by the head coach.
One fan commented, “He trained separately from the squad to manage his load but still played him for over 80 minutes. Well done, Ancelotti.”
Another fan expressed similar frustration, stating, “And they still started him… terrible management.”
Additionally, another supporter criticized the coaching staff, remarking, “It’s absolutely insane that he played in the game. Completely irresponsible from everyone involved.”
Other fans expressed greater frustration over Ancelotti’s decision to field Gabriel in a friendly match, which held no stakes for the Selecao.
One supporter commented: “‘Manage his load’ yet they still included him in a pointless game.” This sentiment was shared by another fan, who remarked: “I don’t see the reason for playing him in that case!? It’s just a friendly.
If ANY player is dealing with even a slight injury, why take the risk? Particularly during such a hectic time in the season.”
