Ian Wright shares his sincere perspective on Mikel Merino’s debut for Arsenal in the match against PSG.
On Tuesday evening, Arsenal secured a 2-0 victory over PSG in a commendable Champions League display.
The Gunners demonstrated their superiority throughout the match, with one of the standout moments being Mikel Merino’s debut.
After recovering from a shoulder injury that had sidelined him, Merino made his first appearance for Arsenal by coming off the bench against PSG.
Although he played for only about 25 minutes, Merino’s performance was enough to catch the attention of Ian Wright.
During a discussion on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Wright praised Merino’s readiness and noted that the midfield appeared significantly more robust with his presence on the field.
Wright’s thoughts on Merino’s debut.
Wright expressed his enthusiasm regarding Merino’s introduction against PSG.
“It was fantastic to see him come on. You know what? He looked very prepared. He executed a solid sliding tackle.
“It was impressive to witness the fans’ excitement for him, especially considering he hadn’t played for us yet,” Wright remarked.
“We will rely on his energy; when he and Declan were in the midfield, it felt strong, physical, and quick. We had a lot of dynamism in there.”
Potential of Mikel Merino.
While it is still early in the season, there are promising signs that Mikel Merino could be a valuable asset for Arsenal.
The Gunners’ midfield could benefit from additional energy, especially since Thomas Partey and Jorginho have shown signs of reduced mobility. Merino might be the solution they need.
Mikel Arteta has indicated that Merino is expected to make a significant impact this season, and the momentum is now building in that direction.
Merino has the potential to be one of the standout signings of the season.
