Hugo Ekitike reveals his true self before making a candid admission about Alexander Isak.

On Wednesday night, Hugo Ekitike netted his inaugural Champions League goal as Liverpool triumphed over Eintracht Frankfurt with a score of 5-1, with the French striker leading the attack alongside Alexander Isak.

Ekitike has acknowledged that their collaboration in the forward line requires improvement, following their first match together for Liverpool against Eintracht Frankfurt.

The French international equalized for the Reds after a well-executed counter-attack, playing a key role in Arne Slot’s team’s impressive 5-1 win in Germany.

Additional goals from Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Cody Gakpo, and Dominik Szoboszlai ensured a convincing victory for Liverpool, enabling the reigning Premier League champions to bounce back from their defeat to Manchester United on Sunday and end a four-match losing streak.

Ekitike, who transferred to the Reds from Frankfurt in a £79 million deal this summer, delivered a strong performance against his former club before being substituted in the 74th minute, shortly after Liverpool scored their fifth goal.

In contrast, Isak was taken off at half-time after being consistently denied by goalkeeper Michael Zetterer, with Slot revealing post-match that the decision to substitute the Swede was due to a groin injury.

Ekitike can now proudly claim six goals and one assist from 12 appearances for the Reds thus far.

Meanwhile, Isak has managed one goal and one assist from eight matches, with his sole goal coming in the League Cup third-round victory over Southampton.

The Sweden international has been trying to catch up after a tumultuous pre-season at his former club Newcastle United, where he effectively went on strike to facilitate his high-profile transfer.

Although he is still adjusting, especially after potentially sustaining an injury during the match against Frankfurt, Ekitike remains optimistic that the pair will forge a strong partnership in the future.

“I believe it was a positive experience,” he remarked when questioned about his initial match alongside Isak. “Clearly, it wasn’t our best half together, but I am confident we can enhance our performance as a team.

“He is an excellent player. I understand that over time, we need to collaborate and establish a strong partnership, and the connections will develop, leading to success.

“I think the reason I have adapted so quickly is that I feel good mentally. I have fantastic teammates and supportive staff. I truly enjoy my life here.

“I just hope to continue this momentum… I feel really positive, and they have been incredibly supportive. I believe that is why I remain composed and focused on my game.”

In the meantime, Ekitike, who opted not to celebrate his significant goal against Frankfurt and instead raised his hands in apology to the home supporters, also expressed gratitude towards his previous club after the match, recognizing that he wouldn’t be at Liverpool without the vital role the Bundesliga team played in his growth.

“You know I had to score; it was an amazing feeling,” he shared with TNT Sports. “It was definitely something special for me to return, I would say to my second home. I know everyone here.

“This match was particularly meaningful for me. Winning was crucial, and scoring my first goal in the Champions League made it even better. So, I am very pleased.

“I remained composed and calm. I did what I could do. I anticipated he would come and create space, so I aimed to place the ball between his legs, and it worked out well. That was satisfying.

“I hold a great deal of respect for them (Frankfurt). They shaped me into the player I am today. I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t j oined Frankfurt.
