“He’s not trusted”: Liverpool may replace first-team star with 25-year-old

Liverpool is considering the possibility of replacing Federico Chiesa with Antoine Semenyo during the winter transfer window.

The future of Federico Chiesa has become a significant topic of discussion in recent weeks. Although he started the season on a positive note, the Italian international has not been receiving consistent playing time at Anfield. Consequently, several top clubs are showing interest in acquiring the former Juventus player.

Liverpool might sell Federico Chiesa

As reported by Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Liverpool could be inclined to profit from the 28-year-old amid increasing interest from Serie A teams. However, the Reds will only approve his exit once they have secured a suitable replacement. They are eyeing Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo to fill his position in the squad.

Chiesa had the chance to leave the Merseyside club last summer after a lackluster season previously. Nevertheless, he chose to remain at the club, hoping to compete for a significant role under Arne Slot.

Chiesa is not valued by Arne Slot

Despite a few encouraging appearances at the beginning of the season, he has found himself on the outskirts of the Dutch manager’s squad. He has accumulated only 380 minutes of first-team play across 14 matches in all competitions.

Even with the initial promise, he is not a key figure in Slot’s lineup. With several Italian clubs eager to bring him back to his home country, Liverpool may consider cashing in on him in the forthcoming transfer window.

While discussing Chiesa’s future at Liverpool, O’Rourke stated: “He has been utilized more often this season, but primarily as a fringe player coming off the bench; he’s only made two starts, both in the EFL Cup.”

“It appears that Arne Slot does not trust him to secure a place in the team, despite some fans advocating for Chiesa to be given a chance to see if he can ignite a turnaround in their fortunes.”

“I can only envision Chiesa departing if Liverpool secures a replacement, and if they indeed pursue their interest in Antoine Semenyo, that might create an opportunity for Chiesa to move.”

Will Chiesa depart Liverpool in January?

Italian clubs may approach Liverpool to attempt to acquire the 28-year-old. Although he enjoys his time at Anfield, he might contemplate a transfer, as it could enhance his chances of being selected for Italy’s World Cup squad.

Liverpool might entertain selling him for the right offer, considering he is not a crucial element of their strategy. However, this would only occur if they can find a suitable replacement in the forthcoming transfer window.

The Reds have been monitoring Semenyo, and it will be intriguing to see if they reignite their interest in the Bournemouth player. Given his performance history in the Premier League, he could turn out to be an exceptional acquisition for them.
