Liverpool is in advanced negotiations for an exciting second summer signing.

Liverpool is reportedly in advanced conversations to complete their second summer transfer.

The club is nearing an agreement to acquire Bournemouth’s left-back Milos Kerkez, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, even as they express interest in another Premier League player for the same position.

Despite having secured the Premier League title, Liverpool is diligently working to enhance Arne Slot’s squad for the upcoming season.

Since March, the Reds have been aware of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s intention to join Real Madrid on a free transfer, prompting them to swiftly pursue Jeremie Frimpong as his successor.

They have activated the Dutchman’s €35 million (£29 million / $39 million) release clause at Bayer Leverkusen and have reached a five-year contract agreement with him, with medical tests currently underway.

Additionally, Liverpool is in need of a new left-back due to Andy Robertson’s decline in performance over the past year.

They have pinpointed Kerkez as a crucial target, given his outstanding form with Bournemouth. Romano has shared updates on Liverpool’s pursuit of the 21-year-old, indicating that the club has ‘contacted Bournemouth’ to finalize a deal, with discussions ‘progressing’.

The two teams are currently ‘negotiating’ the transfer fee for Kerkez, while Liverpool is also ‘finalizing the agreement’ on personal terms with the player, who is ‘eager for the move’.

This information follows Saturday’s announcement that Bournemouth had ‘cleared’ Liverpool to proceed with signing Kerkez.

The Cherries are seeking £45 million (€53.5 million / $60 million) for his transfer, a figure Liverpool is prepared to meet.

Kerkez has emerged as Liverpool’s ‘next top target’, and their sporting director, Richard Hughes, is committed to securing a deal with his former club on the south coast.

Liverpool has opted for Kerkez over Ait-Nouri. Last week, Liverpool FC writer David Lynch expressed skepticism about the Reds’ chances of acquiring Kerkez, suggesting that one cannot ‘rely on anyone’ in this situation.

Lynch mentioned Rayan Ait-Nouri as a potential target for Liverpool, who have had a long-standing interest in the Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back, especially following his recent change of agents.

Although Liverpool still holds Ait-Nouri in high regard, he is likely considered a secondary option as they are actively pursuing a deal for Kerkez, a move that TEAMtalk first reported in September 2024 when our transfer insider Fraser Fletcher indicated that the Hungarian was at the top of their priority list.

Additionally, Slot’s team is looking for a new centre-back and had aspirations to sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth.

TEAMtalk has learned that Liverpool extended a contract offer to the promising Spanish talent before ultimately losing him to Real Madrid.

Sources have also indicated that Liverpool is preparing to compete with Chelsea for a highly regarded Dutch defender after missing out on Huijsen, who has moved to the Spanish capital.
