Gakpo To Start? | Anticipated 4-2-3-1 Liverpool Lineup Against Wolves

Liverpool secured a hard-earned 2-1 victory during their visit to Molineux for the earlier encounter with Wolves.

The recent 2-2 draw against Everton may feel like a loss for Liverpool, especially after James Tarkowski’s late equalizer in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Nevertheless, they maintain a seven-point advantage over Arsenal at the top of the Premier League as they prepare to host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.

While Wolves are battling to avoid relegation, Liverpool cannot afford to be complacent after dropping vital points in the title race.

They managed a narrow 2-1 victory at Molineux earlier this season, but the urgency for survival may inspire a determined performance from the Midlanders, especially following their impressive 2-0 win against Aston Villa in their last league match.

The Reds must secure all three points at Anfield, with challenging away fixtures looming ahead.

Anticipated 4-2-3-1 Liverpool Lineup Against Wolves

Defense

Alisson Becker faced difficulties against Everton, having little chance to prevent either goal. However, his exceptional positioning, one-on-one skills, and renowned passing ability make him indispensable in goal.

Arne Slot managed Trent Alexander-Arnold’s playing time at Goodison Park by introducing him as a second-half substitute.

The dynamic right-back is expected to return to the starting lineup, replacing Conor Bradley, having recovered from a minor injury.

Andrew Robertson is likely to retain his position on the left, ahead of Kostas Tsimikas, while the central defensive partnership of Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk must work to restore solidity after struggling with Everton’s aerial threats and direct style of play.

With Joe Gomez facing a new injury concern, Jarell Quansah remains the only other first-team center-back available.

Midfield

The Blues effectively prevented Ryan Gravenberch from influencing the game from a deeper position, but the energetic Dutch midfielder is likely eager to bounce back after an uncharacteristically subdued performance.

He will be joined by Alexis Mac Allister, who brings creativity through his box-to-box runs, quick footwork, precise passing, and incisive through balls into the attacking zone.

Wataru Endo may come on as a late substitute to help secure a win, alongside Harvey Elliott, who provides versatility in midfield. Curtis Jones will be unavailable due to suspension following his dismissal after a confrontation with Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucouré.

Dominik Szoboszlai has established himself as a key attacking playmaker, contributing both energy and diligence in the midfield.

Mohamed Salah is likely leading the Ballon d’Or race, boasting an impressive tally of 27 goals and 19 assists in 35 matches across all competitions, and the in-form Egyptian will aim to increase his goal count against Vítor Pereira’s side.

Cody Gakpo was substituted on Wednesday due to an injury, prompting the manager to consider deploying Luis Diaz on the left flank if Gakpo is unable to recover in time.

Attack

Slot faces a decision on whether to select Darwin Nunez or Diogo Jota should Diaz be moved to the wing.

However, the Portuguese forward is expected to be favored against his former club due to his sharpness and goal-scoring instincts in and around the penalty area.
