A top contender has emerged as the new favorite for the Sunderland job after Beale was sacked by the Black Cats.

The former Newcastle star is now in the running for the position, following Beale’s dismissal after a 2-1 defeat to Birmingham and a string of disappointing results during his tenure.

Scott Parker, a former Newcastle United midfielder, has unexpectedly become the frontrunner for the Sunderland job after the dismissal of Michael Beale.

Beale was let go by the Black Cats after a 2-1 loss to Birmingham and a lackluster record of only four wins in 12 games, including a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle in the FA Cup.

The 43-year-old has been unemployed since departing from Club Brugge last season, where he only managed to win two out of his 12 games in charge.

The ex-England international has been linked to various job opportunities in England and Scotland, but he recently declined an offer to join Aberdeen.

Parker is currently priced at 7/4 by certain bookmakers, placing him ahead of contenders such as Frank Lampard (2/1), Will Still (3/1), and Paul Heckingbottom (7/2).

If Parker were to accept the position as the Black Cats’ manager, it would likely be at the end of the season, as Mike Dodds is expected to continue as the caretaker manager until then.

Furthermore, the former Newcastle captain has also had successful managerial stints at Fulham and Bournemouth, achieving promotion to the Premier League with both clubs.
