‘Embarrassment’ – Cody Gakpo discusses Liverpool dressing room talk following the defeat to Forest.

Cody Gakpo has acknowledged that he and his Liverpool teammates felt a sense of embarrassment after their Premier League loss to Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday.

This defeat places Arne Slot’s team in 12th position in the league standings, marking their eighth loss across all competitions this season.

Despite significant signings like Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike, and not facing a defeat until eight matches into the season, the Reds have struggled to penetrate defensive setups and are highly vulnerable to counter-attacks.

Gakpo, an international player for the Netherlands, has now revealed what he and his teammates have been doing since the disappointing performance over the weekend.

“After the match on Saturday, it was a sort of embarrassment because we lost 3-0 at home in front of our supporters, which is unacceptable,” the former PSV Eindhoven player stated (as reported by Express).

“We understand that our fans are here to support us in every challenging situation, but we also need to give them something in return. In the days following that match, we were, I don’t want to say angry, but we made an effort to communicate openly and honestly about what we need to do to improve our performance on the field.

“We also recognize the importance of unity, and that’s what we will strive to do again to deliver strong performances and secure victories.

“Everyone understands that we must take responsibility both on and off the field. This was a discussion you have with a teammate.

“We are conscious that we need to take accountability, that we must improve in certain areas on the pitch. That’s what we talked about. We are honest because otherwise, there’s no value in having the conversation.”

It remains uncertain whether Gakpo and the rest of the Liverpool team will accept responsibility ahead of their Champions League match against PSV at Anfield tomorrow night.

The Dutchman began the match energetically on Saturday, much like many of his teammates, but was unable to secure a goal and subsequently faltered after going behind.

Liverpool has frequently allowed the first goal this season, forcing them to pursue the game, which often results in leaving spaces across the field that the opposing team capitalizes on.

Unity is crucial if the Premier League champions hope to extricate themselves from this predicament.

Our squad possesses sufficient talent to compete on the three remaining fronts this season, so it is now essential for our seasoned players to revert to their typical performance levels and for our new recruits to demonstrate their capability to be part of Liverpool.
