This afternoon at Wembley, Premier League champions Liverpool will face FA Cup winners Crystal Palace in the traditional season opener.
Last season, the Reds were easily crowned the top team in England and have since embarked on an impressive spending spree, investing nearly £300 million on players such as Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Hugo Ekitike.
All four players are anticipated to start at Wembley today, as they challenge an Eagles squad that secured their first major trophy in history at the same venue in May. On that occasion, they triumphed over Manchester City; can they achieve another significant victory?
In contrast, it has been a less fruitful summer for Palace, who will learn on Monday whether they have been reinstated into the Europa League after being relegated to the Conference League due to UEFA’s regulations on multi-club ownership.
However, before that, both teams will celebrate their recent achievements as they aim to secure another piece of silverware before the new season kicks off.
