Carragher names “crisis” problem Liverpool must fix after fourth straight defeat…
Carragher highlights the “crisis” issue Liverpool needs to address following their fourth consecutive defeat.
The latest setback in the Premier League for Liverpool has sparked a strong critique from Jamie Carragher, who pinpointed a significant flaw that he believes is pushing the team into “crisis territory”.
Once again, Liverpool’s lack of physicality has been exposed.
During a discussion on Sky Sports Premier League, Carragher analyzed our 3-2 loss to Brentford – a defeat that marks four consecutive league losses for the reigning champions, representing our worst streak since February 2021.
“I want to address the absence of physicality in the Liverpool squad,” the 47-year-old stated.
“This is something that needs to be emphasized now… Conor Bradley gets too close because I don’t think he has enough confidence in his physicality, which is why he accumulates so many yellow cards.”
The former vice-captain noted that this issue extends beyond just the young right-back.
“Liverpool fails to win the initial challenge and doesn’t secure the second ball,” he elaborated. “I keep returning to the fact that we are not prepared for the demands of the Premier League this season.”
Brentford’s long-throw strategies once again led to our downfall, with Dango Ouattara taking advantage early in the match.
Carragher indicated that the absence of “height and strength” in crucial defensive positions has made us susceptible to such direct approaches.
Liverpool is facing serious scrutiny amid this troubling streak.
Carragher was frank in his evaluation of the current state of our title defense.
“We are in a crisis period for Liverpool at the moment,” he cautioned.
“Serious questions will be raised — regarding the players, the coaching staff, and those in higher positions — because given the investment made this summer, this performance is unacceptable.”
John Aldridge shared a similarly harsh perspective on the current situation on the field, which is not providing a positive experience for fans and former players alike.
Despite goals from Milos Kerkez and Mo Salah, the damage had already been inflicted, leaving us in seventh place in the standings and in urgent need of a reset.
This isn’t the first occasion this season that Carragher has raised concerns about our defensive setup; it now seems increasingly pertinent as our difficulties intensify.
