Arsene Wenger names Arsenal’s two biggest Champions League threats…
Arsene Wenger identifies Arsenal’s two primary threats in the Champions League.
Wenger asserts that Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich pose the most significant non-Premier League challenges to Arsenal’s Champions League aspirations this season.
Arsenal maintained their strong start to the season with a 3-0 win over Slavia Prague on Tuesday night, marking their fourth consecutive victory in the Champions League this year.
Bayern Munich has also achieved four wins in their matches thus far, including a notable 2-1 triumph over the reigning Champions League champions, PSG, at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday evening.
Liverpool has climbed into the top eight of the Champions League standings following a 1-0 win against Real Madrid at Anfield, while Arne Slot’s team sits one point ahead of Tottenham, who secured a 4-0 victory against FC Copenhagen.
Meanwhile, Manchester City could surpass both Liverpool and Tottenham if they defeat Borussia Dortmund at home on Wednesday night. Additionally, Chelsea and Newcastle United could equal Liverpool’s nine points if they win their respective matches against Qarabag and Athletic Bilbao.
Discussing the Champions League prospects of PSG and Bayern Munich on beIN Sports, Wenger remarked: ‘I would say they are the two teams capable of winning the Champions League this season, outside of England.
‘Another contender could be Real Madrid, but there is no doubt that Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain will dominate their leagues.
‘Paris Saint-Germain is set to win the championship in France, and Bayern is on the verge of clinching the title in Germany, so their focus will undoubtedly be on European competition.
‘They will face tough competition from the five Premier League teams, which will be quite intriguing.
‘Currently, Paris Saint-Germain is not performing at their peak, while Real Madrid and Liverpool are striving to reach their best form, and Bayern is operating at full strength.’
In addition, former Premier League striker Troy Deeney shares the view that Arsenal and Bayern Munich are the two leading contenders for the Champions League title.
“I believe we all agreed that our top three would include PSG, Bayern Munich, and Arsenal,” Deeney stated to CBS Sports.
“The rankings beyond that are constantly changing; we could adjust them week by week. We all mentioned those three teams, but the order is what varies.
“I would argue that Bayern should be at the top after their victory today against PSG, but I also think there’s a strong case for Arsenal being number one since they lead in both leagues.
I would contend that the Premier League is more competitive than the Bundesliga.
“With Arsenal sitting at the top and having achieved eight consecutive clean sheets, one could make a case for either team, but Bayern Munich certainly deserves to be in the conversation.”
