Arsenal’s impressive performance delights Mikel Arteta in commanding Carabao Cup victory over Bolton
Arsenal 5-1 Bolton: The Gunners have advanced to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup following a decisive win at the Emirates Stadium.
Following a resounding 5-1 win against Bolton in the Carabao Cup, Mikel Arteta was pleased with the standout performances from his Arsenal duo. Sterling and Nwaneri celebrated their first goals for the team.
With a dominant 5-1 scoreline against League One side Bolton, Arsenal has secured their place in the next round of the Carabao Cup.
Declan Rice opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 16th minute, followed by a remarkable brace from promising teenager Ethan Nwaneri, who found the net twice around the half-time interval.
Bolton managed to score through Aaron Collins, but Raheem Sterling effectively sealed the match with a goal just under 30 minutes from the end.
Kai Havertz then concluded the scoring in the 77th minute with a close-range effort.
Arsenal now joins the ranks of teams like Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham in the draw for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, which will take place soon. Express Sport has highlighted some key points from the match…
TEENAGE TALENTS SHINE ON THEIR FULL DEBUTS
The Emirates witnessed a memorable occasion as four teenagers made their full debuts, including 16-year-old goalkeeper Jack Porter, along with Josh Nichols, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Ethan Nwaneri.
All four players made a significant impact, but it was the performances of Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri that particularly caught the attention of Arsenal supporters.
Both players have previously made brief appearances for the first team and are seen as emerging stars from the Gunners’ academy.
Their performances tonight demonstrated to Mikel Arteta that they are ready to contribute at a higher level.
Nwaneri displayed remarkable composure in midfield, scoring two impressive goals, while Lewis-Skelly showcased his vision with a brilliant assist that set up Sterling, who then laid the ball off for Nwaneri to score Arsenal’s second goal.
STERLING SHINES ON THE LEFT FLANK
After a relatively quiet beginning, Sterling’s influence on the match began to increase as the first half progressed.
The Chelsea loanee consistently posed a threat down the left side, demonstrating a willingness to take on defenders, in contrast to Gabriel Martinelli, who prefers to cut inside.
His incisive run down the left side was pivotal in breaking through Bolton’s defense, leading to Arsenal’s second goal of the evening.
Sterling capped off his performance with his inaugural goal for the club, tapping in from close range after Bukayo Saka’s powerful shot was not adequately handled by Bolton goalkeeper Luke Southwood.
ARTETA EXHALES IN RELIEF
Despite giving four full debuts to young players, Arteta took a calculated risk by starting Declan Rice and Saka.
Arsenal supporters were understandably anxious about the potential for injuries to key players ahead of their upcoming Premier League match against Leicester.
Fortunately, both players emerged unscathed, and Arteta’s gamble proved successful as the Gunners advanced to the fourth round, allowing some of his star players to maintain their competitive edge.
