Arsenal is now targeting a move to acquire the 6ft 1in star in January, with a potential £34m deal on the horizon, according to reports.

The Gunners are contemplating a January transfer for Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoumé.

According to Fichajes, Arsenal is strategizing to sign French defensive midfielder Lucien Agoumé from Sevilla in January.

Sevilla has had a strong start to their season, currently positioned sixth in La Liga, with Agoumé playing a crucial role in their success.

The 6ft 1in player has been essential to the team’s solid defensive performances, effectively closing down spaces and neutralizing attacking threats, contributing to the fact that the Andalusian club has conceded only 11 goals so far, which is the joint third fewest in La Liga.

In contrast, the Gunners experienced the departures of Thomas Partey and Jorginho over the summer, replacing them with Christian Nørgaard and Martin Zubimendi, the latter of whom recently earned the Premier League goal of the month award for his powerful strike against Nottingham Forest.

Although they may not currently require additional midfield cover, Arsenal is already planning for potential young talents and long-term targets to fill the position, particularly with Nørgaard approaching 32 next year.

One of the players Arsenal is considering is Agoumé, as reported by Fichajes, which states that the North London club is already looking into making a move for the France U21 international during the January transfer window.

The report further indicates that the Gunners aim to secure the defensive midfielder’s signature in advance, anticipating possible departures or declines in performance from their existing midfielders.

With three years remaining on his contract at Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, the Spanish source notes that Sevilla has set a £34m asking price for the Yaoundé-born France U21 star but may entertain lower offers if the player shows a desire to leave in light of Arsenal’s interest.

Agoumé is well-known for his ability to remain calm under pressure and his talent for managing the pace of the game.

Operating mainly as a deep-lying midfielder, he leverages his strength and awareness to protect the defense while also starting offensive plays.

His remarkable passing ability and precise ball control allow him to link defense and attack effortlessly, making him an essential asset for Matías Almeyda, who prefers to have a skilled passer in the midfield during his team’s build-up.

He is a tenacious midfielder who excels at tackling and is tireless in neutralizing threats when his team faces pressure. These qualities would be extremely beneficial to Mikel Arteta if the Gunners decide to acquire him in January.
