Arsenal set to offload trio to finance £100m Guimaraes transfer –

Arsenal are prepared to part ways with Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith Rowe, and Eddie Nketiah in order to secure the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, according to sources close to Football Insider.

The three players are no longer considered essential at the Emirates Stadium as Mikel Arteta aims to elevate Arsenal to a prominent position in European football.

Football Insider disclosed on Monday (29 April) that both Arsenal and Manchester City are keen on acquiring Guimaraes from Newcastle.

Premier League title contenders have the opportunity to secure the services of the Brazilian player for £100million, but this offer is only valid until the end of June.

This situation has led to speculation that Arsenal may need to part ways with their homegrown talents in order to comply with Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) if they pursue Guimaraes.

Academy graduates are seen as a source of profit under PSR, and their sales can impact the club’s financial accounts for the 2023-24 season if completed before 30 June.

With players like Nelson, Smith Rowe, and Nketiah potentially being moved on, Arsenal is under pressure to gather the necessary funds to acquire Guimaraes before his release clause activates in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Despite signing a new four-year contract in 2023, Nelson, 24, has had limited playing time this season with only five starts in all competitions.

Smith Rowe, aged 23, has once again faced challenges with injuries during the 2023-24 season, only managing to play for a total of 453 minutes. On the other hand, Nketiah, aged 24, has scored six goals in 37 appearances this season. However, it is widely anticipated that Nketiah will be transferred as Arsenal is actively seeking a new striker.

Despite their injury setbacks, Arsenal, under the management of Arteta, currently hold the top position in the Premier League. However, they have played one more game than their title rivals, Manchester City. The Gunners are currently leading City by just one point, but City remains the favored team to secure their fourth consecutive title.

In other news, Arsenal has initiated discussions regarding a potential deal for a defender, and an agreement is expected to be reached soon.
