Arsenal gains significant advantage in pursuit of top target as they are reportedly ‘closer’ to signing £50m winger than Bayern Munich.

Arsenal is in a favorable position regarding transfers, as they are reportedly ‘closer’ to achieving their £50 million top target than their rivals, Bayern Munich.

The Gunners have received a major boost in their efforts to acquire Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, with Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk indicating that Arsenal is in a better position than Bayern Munich to secure the player.

While Arsenal is enjoying a solid season in the Premier League, Mikel Arteta’s team is likely to finish as runners-up for the third consecutive year.

Currently sitting in second place, they trail league leaders Liverpool by 12 points with just nine matches left to play.

A remarkable turnaround would be required from Liverpool, who have lost only once this season, for Arsenal to re-enter the title race.

Arteta, along with new sporting director Andrea Berta, is focused on bringing in a new center-forward this summer, but acquiring a top winger is also a key priority.

Nico Williams is believed to be their primary target, and fans will be encouraged to learn that Arsenal is reportedly ‘closer to a deal’ than Bayern Munich, despite earlier claims that the German club was leading the race for the Spanish international.

Contrary to those claims, it appears that Bayern Munich is not as advanced in negotiations for Williams.

Currently, the Bundesliga club is unable to proceed as they need to offload players first.

Max Eberl, their head of sport, is looking to sell Kingsley Coman, who has been linked to Tottenham, Newcastle, and clubs in Saudi Arabia.

If they can successfully sell Coman, they may then have the funds to pursue Williams.

Additionally, Serge Gnabry is also on the market, but there has been little interest from other clubs at this time.

Therefore, Bayern must wait to see if they can finalize a sale for Coman before moving forward.

Leroy Sane’s situation is also worth noting, as he will become a free agent this summer. Consequently, Bayern Munich will require an additional left winger, which is why Nico Williams has emerged as a significant target for the club.

Discussions regarding Sane’s future are ongoing with Arsenal, and there is some interest from Liverpool as well.

Bayern is open to negotiations, but currently, no decision has been made about offering him a new contract. Should he choose to extend his stay, it would likely be for a salary below €20 million per year. Ultimately, Sane will determine what is best for his career.

Sane has expressed a desire to remain at Bayern Munich, particularly due to his close relationships with teammates Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala, both of whom have recently signed new deals. They form a tight-knit group aiming to win the Champions League together; however, personal connections alone do not dictate one’s career path in football. Financial and sporting considerations will ultimately play a crucial role.

On a different note, Arsenal legend Alan Smith would be surprised if the Gunners opted to sign Williams this summer, as he might find himself relegated to a bench role.

Smith remarked that while Nico Williams is capable of playing on that side, the return of Saka presents a challenging dilemma when considering a backup for a player who is a guaranteed starter like Saka.

He added that Williams likely wouldn’t want to join a club only to find himself relegated to the bench.

As a talented young player, it remains uncertain whether Arsenal will pursue him. The club must navigate the transfer market carefully, especially during this challenging phase of the season.

Smith expressed some skepticism about the likelihood of Williams joining the team, noting that while he may have the versatility to play centrally or on the wings, he would struggle to secure a position on the right when Saka is available.
