Arsenal has reached a preliminary agreement to sign a “monster” player; he could become their new Alexis – opinion

Although they haven’t replicated the success they enjoyed at Highbury, Arsenal has been fortunate to have a wealth of exceptional players since relocating to the Emirates two decades ago.

For instance, talents like Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, William Saliba, and Gabriel Magalhães would fit seamlessly alongside some of the club’s finest.

Additionally, even in the later years of Arsène Wenger’s tenure, supporters and the Premier League were treated to some truly remarkable talents, including Mesut Özil and Santi Cazorla.

However, when considering the most outstanding attacker that the Emirates crowd has had the pleasure of witnessing, it is difficult to overlook the incredible force that was Alexis Sanchez.

Thus, fans should be thrilled that it appears the club is on the verge of signing someone who could be Mikel Arteta’s equivalent of the Chilean.

Arsenal aims to acquire game-changing attackers.

While strengthening other areas of the team is a wise strategy for Arsenal, it is clear that increasing the goal tally is the top priority.

Consequently, discussions about signing Eberechi Eze for approximately £60m are entirely logical, as he may not be a traditional forward, but the Crystal Palace star contributed 25 goal involvements in 43 matches last season.

Similarly, while supporters may not be overly enthusiastic about the connections to Noni Madueke, he had a respectable output of 11 goals and five assists in 2449 minutes last season.

Nevertheless, although both players are expected to enhance the North Londoners’ overall attacking capabilities, particularly the Eagles star, neither is anticipated to have the same influence as Alexis did upon his arrival at the club, which may not hold true for Viktor Gyokeres.

Indeed, according to a recent report from A Bola, as conveyed through Spanish media, Arsenal remains committed to signing the Sporting CP star.

Furthermore, the report indicates that discussions between the two parties have progressed to such a degree that a preliminary agreement has been established.

According to the report, the Gunners are poised to pay an upfront fee of €65 million, with additional bonuses, which is expected to elevate the total cost to approximately €80 million, or around £69 million.

This is a significant investment for a single player, yet Gyokeres has demonstrated that he is deserving of such an amount, and he has the potential to evolve into Arteta’s own version of Alexis.

Why Gyokeres could be Arteta’s Alexis

To address the main point immediately, there is a substantial and unavoidable distinction between Gyokeres and Alexis: their roles on the field.

The former was, at his peak, an incredibly effective winger, while the latter is a pure striker, but this distinction is not crucial.

Our point is not that the Swedish international will mimic the Chilean’s precise style of play, but rather that he could arrive and make a comparable impact on the team.

For instance, during his inaugural season at the Emirates, the former Barcelona star was nothing short of transformative, finishing with an astonishing total of 25 goals and 12 assists across 52 matches.

He then followed that performance with 17 goals and ten assists in 41 appearances the next season.

By the time he departed from the club, the Tocopilla-born dynamo had accumulated an impressive tally of 80 goals and 44 assists in 166 matches.

Interestingly, when reviewing his highlights, it becomes evident that a blend of technical prowess and relentless determination contributed to his goal-scoring success.

While the former Coventry City star may not possess the same technical finesse as the 36-year-old, he certainly exhibits that same fierce determination in his play, possibly even more than the former Arsenal star.

However, don’t just take our word for it; respected analyst Ben Mattinson has noted that one of the Swede’s greatest assets “is his mentality,” stating that he has “an obsession with scoring goals” and that he will “have complete confidence in his ability to be the key player.”
