Arsenal player ratings vs Wolves: That was fortunate! Two own goals secure a dramatic late victory for the Gunners against Premier League strugglers, as Viktor Gyokeres fails to score once more.
3/10 disappointment contrasts with 9/10 standout earning Man of the Match – Arsenal 2-1 Wolves player ratings.
On Saturday evening, Arsenal triumphed over Wolves with a score of 2-1 in a thrilling Premier League match.
At half-time, some boos echoed around the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal struggled to penetrate the league’s weakest defense in the first half. It wasn’t until the 70th minute that they finally found the breakthrough, when Bukayo Saka’s corner struck the post, ricocheted off Sam Johnstone’s head, and ended up in his own net.
In the 90th minute, Wolves stunned the crowd with an equalizer, leveling the match at 1-1 thanks to substitute Tolu Arokordare’s header. However, Saka’s subsequent cross was inadvertently headed into his own goal by Yerson Mosquera, allowing the Gunners to snatch all three points from the brink of defeat.
Arsenal Player Ratings
GK: David Raya – 6/10
He was called into action only once during the match. Although he made just one save, it was crucial and well-executed. However, his positioning for Wolves’ goal could be considered lacking.
RB: Ben White – 6/10
He had to leave the pitch after just 31 minutes due to an injury. White started the match well, finding some success on the right flank, particularly with his crosses into the box.
CB: Jurrien Timber – 7.5/10
Timber was tasked with responsibilities at both centre-back and right-back, and he delivered a commendable performance. Defensively, he was nearly flawless and also had several promising moments with his crosses in wide positions.
CB: William Saliba – 8/10
He was effective with the ball and consistently sought to advance his teammates up the pitch. The French defender had minimal defensive duties due to Wolves’ lack of attacking threat, but he performed admirably when called upon.
LB: Piero Hincapie – 7/10
He had little defensive work to manage but was quite effective in pushing forward and aiding his team in advancing up the pitch.
CM: Martin Zubimendi – 5/10
Saw a lot of the ball in midfield, but was unable to deliver a pass that penetrated the Wolves defense. The Spaniard primarily opted for sideways and backward passes, even when Arsenal was in need of a goal.
CM: Declan Rice – 6/10
The England international had a solid outing in midfield, yet became somewhat predictable and easy to manage, as his main contribution was crosses into the box, most of which were either overhit or handled by Johnstone.
AM: Eberechi Eze – 5/10
Did his utmost to advance with the ball and generate opportunities for his team, but was unable to break through the Wolves defense despite his determined efforts.
RW: Bukayo Saka – 9/10 (Man of the Match)
Without a doubt, Arsenal’s standout player. Almost all of Arsenal’s attacking success flowed through the Englishman, and he played a role in Johnstone’s own goal, as his corner created significant issues. Saka was also involved in Wolves’ second own goal with another threatening cross.
ST: Victor Gyokeres – 3/10
Rarely made an impact on the match, and even when he dropped deeper to get involved, he appeared clumsy and uncoordinated. There were multiple instances where his teammates delivered excellent low crosses into the Wolves box, but he was simply not present to capitalize on them.
LW: Gabriel Martinelli – 5.5/10
Failed to convert a few excellent opportunities, although they were from tight angles. Martinelli had some success in one-on-one situations, but his decision-making in and around the Wolves’ box was a significant letdown.
SUB: Myles Lewis-Skelly – 7/10
Came on for White effectively and injected plenty of energy and directness into Arsenal’s left flank.
SUB: Leandro Trossard – N/A
Had little impact after being substituted in.
SUB: Martin Odegaard – 7.5/10
Delivered several passes that ultimately unlocked the Wolves defense. Following Odegaard’s introduction, Arsenal appeared to be a much more formidable team in attack.
SUB: Mikel Merino – N/A
Made minimal impact after coming on.
SUB: Gabriel Jesus – N/A
Did not contribute significantly after being substituted in.
