Arsenal player ratings against Leicester as Leandro Trossard secures a late winner and Saka makes history

Arsenal achieved a thrilling 4-2 victory over Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium. After an early opportunity for James Justin, Arsenal took control of the match, limiting Leicester’s chances significantly. The Gunners took the lead when Gabriel Martinelli finished off a cutback from Jurrien Timber.

At that moment, it appeared that Arsenal could score at will, with Kai Havertz and Declan Rice both coming close. Just before halftime, Leandro Trossard scored a vital second goal.

It seemed like Arsenal would cruise to victory, but within a minute of the second half, Leicester pulled one back through a header from Wilfred Ndidi following a free-kick.

Arsenal responded positively, hitting the post through Trossard, but it was Leicester who equalized with a stunning volley from Justin.

As the match neared its conclusion, it looked like Arsenal might squander two points for the second consecutive week.

However, Trossard found himself at the back post to convert Saka’s corner, deflecting off Ndidi.

In the midst of the celebrations, Havertz added a fortunate fourth goal, as his shot deflected in off Justin’s clearance, despite being in an offside position. Below are the individual ratings for the Gunners as assessed by football.london.

David Raya: A goalkeeper’s life – had little to do but still conceded twice. 6.

Jurrien Timber: Excelled in the first half, contributing an assist for Martinelli’s goal. Almost scored himself in the second half but was caught out of position for the cross that led to Justin’s equalizer. 7.

William Saliba: He was highly alert in the first half, effectively neutralizing Jamie Vardy’s threat. However, he lost concentration at the beginning of the second half, conceding the free kick that resulted in Ndidi’s goal. 6.

Gabriel: He nearly scored a third corner goal, but Hermansen made an impressive save. He had little chance to influence the goals scored by Leicester. 6.

Riccardo Calafiori: He showed promise in attack, but there are still defensive concerns. He was slightly out of position on the cross that led to Leicester’s equalizer and could have received a second yellow card on another occasion. 6.

Thomas Partey: He performed well in the first half, helping Arsenal maintain their dominance. However, he appeared to tire significantly in the second half and should have done more to prevent the cross that led to the equalizer. 6.

Leandro Trossard: He executed his goal to put Arsenal ahead effectively. While he may not have intended for his winner to cross the line, he earned that bit of luck after a strong performance. 8.

Declan Rice: He consistently regained possession to keep Arsenal in control during the first half, and his set-piece deliveries were reliably effective. 7.

Bukayo Saka: He was a constant threat to Leicester on the right flank, creating numerous opportunities. His set-piece delivery was consistently excellent, making him the first player to achieve assists in each of his first six Premier League games of a season. 8.

Kai Havertz: He inadvertently deflected Ndidi’s header into the net, which will be disappointing for him. He worked diligently in the attack and was ultimately rewarded with a fortunate goal. 7.

Gabriel Martinelli: He contributed a goal and an assist, showing flashes of his best form in the first half. This performance will significantly boost his confidence, and his substitution was not a reflection of his play. 8.

SUBSTITUTES –

Raheem Sterling: He immediately beat his defender after coming on from the left side, adding energy to the Arsenal attack.

Ethan Nwaneri: A significant display of confidence from Arteta in relying on the 17-year-old during a critical moment. He nearly justified the choice right away with a long-range attempt. Overall, he appeared lively. 7.

Gabriel Jesus: Came on late in stoppage time. N/A.
