Arteta implements 6 changes | Anticipated Arsenal XI against Inter Milan as £13m player returns

Key players sidelined as Arteta enacts 6 changes | Projected Arsenal line-up versus Inter Milan

Arsenal aims to get back to winning form as they face Inter Milan away in the Champions League this evening.

The Gunners have already secured their place in the knockout stage of this prestigious tournament with 18 points from six matches.

Nevertheless, the team still needs one more point to ensure a spot in the round of 16 and avoid a knockout play-off.

This seems straightforward, with a manageable match against Kairat Almaty at home on the eighth matchday of the group stage.

Nonetheless, manager Mikel Arteta is expected to field a robust starting XI. We do not foresee more than six alterations from the goalless draw in the Premier League against Nottingham Forest.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Predicted Line-up:

Spanish goalkeeper David Raya has been a constant presence in both Premier League and Champions League fixtures this season. He has achieved five clean sheets in Europe and will be looking for another.

There may be a few adjustments in the defense. Jurrien Timber has had a significant workload lately and might be replaced by Myles Lewis-Skelly in the left-back position this evening.

Lewis-Skelly has been the regular left-back for the Gunners in the Champions League this season, starting four times. The Englishman has a chance to impress the manager ahead of the crucial Premier League match against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

William Saliba was fully rested during the FA Cup third round victory over Portsmouth this month, and it may be Gabriel Magalhaes’ turn to rest. The Brazilian could come off the bench. We expect Cristhian Mosquera to return from injury in the left centre-back position.

The £13 million acquisition is set to make his first start since early December when he sustained an ankle injury against Brentford. Mosquera is likely to partner with Saliba, while Ben White is expected to retain his position at right-back.

Looking ahead, either Martin Zubimendi or Declan Rice may be rested, rather than both players. Rice is a candidate for rest, having played the entire 90 minutes in the away match against Forest. Mikel Merino is expected to join his former Real Sociedad teammate in the midfield tonight.

Eberechi Eze has recently found himself out of the running for a starting position in the Premier League but has participated in other competitions. The 27-year-old might be favored over Martin Odegaard for the number 10 position. The club captain had a subpar performance against Forest, leading to his early substitution in the 57th minute.

In the attacking third, Noni Madueke is likely to remain on the right wing following an impressive performance against the Tricky Trees, where he was unfortunate not to secure an assist. Arteta mentioned that Bukayo Saka was dealing with a minor injury prior to that match. He may come on as a substitute in the second half for Madueke, who has scored three times in his last two European matches.

There may be adjustments in other attacking positions as well. Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Martinelli both squandered significant opportunities against Sean Dyche’s team. Martinelli could be substituted for Leandro Trossard on the left wing, despite Trossard’s scoring streak of five consecutive Champions League matches this season.

Gabriel Jesus attended the press conference with Arteta on Monday evening, which likely indicates that the Brazilian will start ahead of Gyokeres and Kai Havertz against the Nerazzurri.
