Arsenal is considering a £50 million transfer for an international star as Arteta aims to strengthen the squad.
With the intention of bolstering the squad, Arsenal is eyeing a £50 million signing of an international player, according to reports.
Arsenal is reportedly considering a move for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, according to the Independent.
After a challenging season marred by injuries for Thomas Partey, it was anticipated that the Gunners would seek a new deep-lying playmaker during the summer transfer window.
Zubimendi was among several candidates linked to the club. However, Mikel Arteta ultimately opted to sign Mikel Merino, a former teammate of Zubimendi.
Merino, at 28, is not primarily a holding midfielder but excels in a box-to-box role. With Partey’s contract expiring next summer and Jorginho facing a similar situation, Arsenal will need to find replacements if both players depart.
The Independent reports that Arteta is eager to secure a new No.6 and has been monitoring Zubimendi’s performances closely in anticipation of a potential transfer.
Zubimendi has a £50 million release clause in his contract, meaning Arsenal will need to invest significantly to bring him to the Emirates Stadium next year.
The midfielder was a target for Liverpool during the last transfer window, but he chose to remain with his boyhood club.
It remains uncertain whether Liverpool will renew their interest, as they are also looking to strengthen their midfield.
Zubimendi is known for his technical skills as a deep-lying playmaker and possesses the qualities needed to thrive in Arteta’s possession-oriented style.
He has been instrumental for Real Sociedad and has earned his place in the Spanish national team, contributing to their success in the recent European Championship.
Zubimendi is regarded as one of the top midfielders in La Liga, making him an excellent acquisition for Arsenal if they decide to sign him.
It will be intriguing to observe whether the Emirates Club can successfully secure his services to strengthen their midfield next year.
In the meantime, Arsenal heads into the international break after a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the Premier League. Following the break, they will face Nottingham Forest in their next league match.
