Arsenal injury update: Latest news and return dates for Gabriel, Viktor Gyokeres, and Riccardo Calafiori.
The Gunners are concerned about the fitness of several key players ahead of their match against Tottenham.
Arsenal has encountered two new injury concerns before the north London derby.
The Gunners will take on Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium this Sunday, and Mikel Arteta is anxious about the fitness of Gabriel, Riccardo Calafiori, and Viktor Gyokeres.
While Arteta may have some crucial players returning for the Spurs match, the potential absence of Gabriel and Calafiori would significantly impact the Premier League leaders, especially since they have been integral to a defense that has allowed only five goals in 11 matches.
Arsenal has important fixtures coming up, including a Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, followed by a match against Chelsea after the game with Spurs.
With this in mind, here’s the latest on Arsenal’s injury situation and possible return dates…
Gabriel
Gabriel limped off during Brazil’s friendly victory over Senegal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, marking a significant injury setback for Arsenal.
The center-back fell in the second half and received treatment for his right thigh before being substituted.
Initially, Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti indicated that Gabriel had suffered an adductor injury, but scans later confirmed a knee injury.
On Sunday, the Brazilian Football Confederation released a statement saying: “Arsenal player Gabriel Magalhaes was re-evaluated this Sunday and underwent imaging tests that revealed a muscle injury in his right knee.”
Gabriel has been a vital player for Arsenal this season, contributing at both ends of the field, and his loss would be a significant disadvantage.
He has returned to Arsenal for evaluation, and Arteta will give an update on Gabriel and the overall injury situation during his pre-match press conference on Friday.
Potential return date: Unknown
Riccardo Calafiori
The injury to Gabriel occurred just hours after Riccardo Calafiori pulled out of the Italy squad due to a hip problem.
Calafiori was included in the Italy squad despite dealing with an injury, as manager Gennaro Gattuso expressed hope that the left-sided defender would recover in time for their final World Cup qualifier against Norway on Sunday.
However, Calafiori departed the Italy camp on Saturday to head back to Arsenal.
“He attempted to be available, but he cannot push himself at this moment,” Gattuso stated.
Reports from Italy indicate that Arsenal are “not expecting a significant problem or issue”.
Expected return date: November 23, 2025 vs Tottenham (h)
Viktor Gyokeres
Arsenal have been concerned about the fitness of Viktor Gyokeres since he sustained a hamstring injury at Burnley on November 1.
Gyokeres missed matches against Slavia Prague and Sunderland prior to the international break and was not selected for the Sweden squad.
Before the international break, Arteta mentioned that Arsenal were still awaiting details on the severity of the injury, with crucial matches approaching against Spurs on Sunday, Bayern Munich in the Champions League next Wednesday, and Chelsea on November 30.
Expected return date: Unknown
Kai Havertz
Kai Havertz is nearing a return after being sidelined for nearly three months.
Havertz has not participated since the season’s opening weekend due to a knee injury.
The German underwent surgery and is among several players Arteta hopes to reintegrate following the international break.
“[It will be] a significant boost for the squad to have those players back after such an extended absence,” Arteta remarked recently. “I am really pleased that I believe it will be very soon.”
Expected return date: November 23, 2025 vs Tottenham (h)
Martin Odegaard
Martin Odegaard has not featured for Arsenal since he incurred a knee injury against West Ham on October 4.
This came after a challenging few months where Odegaard faced shoulder problems.
Arsenal had anticipated their captain would return after the international break, but Norway manager Stale Solbakken has indicated that he is still “some distance away” from making a comeback.
“His recovery is progressing steadily,” Solbakken remarked regarding Odegaard’s injury last week. “It is moving in a positive direction, but he still has a way to go.”
Potential return date: Unknown
Noni Madueke
Noni Madueke is approaching a comeback after being sidelined for almost two months due to a knee injury.
Madueke sustained his injury during the match against Manchester City on September 21, but scans revealed that the £48 million acquisition from Chelsea did not incur an ACL injury.
He is among the players that Arteta mentioned could potentially return to face Spurs.
Potential return date: November 23, 2025 vs Tottenham (h)
Gabriel Martinelli
Gabriel Martinelli has been unavailable since he sustained an injury against Crystal Palace on October 26.
He has missed the last four matches for Arsenal and was omitted from the Brazil squad, but he may also be back following the international break.
Potential return date: November 23, 2025 vs Tottenham (h)
Gabriel Jesus
Gabriel Jesus has resumed training after being out for nearly a year due to a knee injury.
The Brazilian is intensifying his recovery efforts and seems to be nearing a return.
Potential return date: Late 2025
