Arsenal injury news and return dates as Arteta provides triple Newcastle update…
Arsenal injury updates and return timelines as Arteta shares a three-part update on Newcastle.
All the latest news from Arsenal as Mikel Arteta prepares for today’s match against Newcastle United.
Mikel Arteta may see a few key players return for Arsenal’s match against Newcastle United. The Gunners are set to face Eddie Howe’s team at St. James’ Park this Sunday afternoon, with both teams eager to return to winning form in the Premier League.
Gabriel Martinelli secured a point for the Gunners at Manchester City Stadium last weekend, while Bournemouth managed to hold the Magpies to a scoreless draw.
In a press conference before the eagerly awaited match, Arteta discussed his strategy.
“Every match is unique,” the Spaniard stated. “I wasn’t pleased with the initial minutes we played at the Emirates against them, although there were aspects I appreciated.
There were many elements I liked about our performances at St James’ Park, but not particularly when we conceded goals, so we need to improve.
“I believe the quality is improving; their performance will elevate, ours will too, and we must be at our peak. If we achieve that, we stand a good chance of winning the match.”
The north London team has suffered defeats in their last three encounters at St. James’ Park, so Arteta faces a significant challenge.
Nevertheless, football.london has compiled the latest updates on Arsenal’s injury situation.
Bukayo Saka.
Dowman substituted for Saka approximately an hour into Arsenal’s match against Port Vale.
The 24-year-old winger, who recently returned from a hamstring injury, was subjected to a tough tackle shortly before his substitution.
What Arteta mentioned: “Yes, there’s nothing new to report. I believe he has played the matches we expected, performed well, feels good, and will be training over the next few days.”
Anticipated return date: Newcastle (A) – Premier League – Sunday, September 28.
Piero Hincapie
Hincapie has recently sustained a groin injury. The 23-year-old defender was excluded from Arsenal’s last two matchday squads against Manchester City and Port Vale.
What Arteta has stated: “He has a minor groin injury. We will need to evaluate him again in the coming days to monitor his progress.
There has been a change in his workload, and he did not have a proper pre-season following the surgery he underwent.
“We will need to assess his condition in the next week or so. No, I believe it will be a brief recovery period.”
Expected return date: Newcastle (A) – Premier League – Sunday, September 28.
Martin Odegaard
Odegaard exacerbated his shoulder injury during Arsenal’s match against Nottingham Forest, leading to his substitution by Ethan Nwaneri after just 18 minutes.
The 26-year-old midfielder seemed to have recovered from the issue he faced last month, but he had to miss last weekend’s draw with Manchester City.
What Arteta has stated: “Martin will be training with us for the next two days, so we hope he will be fit for the game.”
Expected return date: Newcastle (A) – Premier League – Sunday, September 28.
Kai Havertz
Last month, Havertz reported discomfort in his knee. The 26-year-old forward subsequently underwent surgery for the issue, and while he is recovering ‘fairly well’, Arteta believes his absence could extend for months rather than weeks.
What Arteta has stated: “With Kai, we understand that it will take months for him to return. I cannot say if it will be weeks; you never know because this is Kai, and he is unique. We truly miss him.
“We hope he will return, and for the long term as well, so it is crucial to take care of that knee. So far, he is making good progress.”
Expected return date: November.
Noni Madueke
Madueke had to leave the field at half-time during Arsenal’s match against Manchester City due to a knee injury. The 23-year-old winger is expected to be out for two months.
What Arteta has stated: “Yes, it appears he will be sidelined for a few weeks. We are still uncertain; we will likely need to scan him again next week.
He experienced discomfort at the start of the match, attempted to continue, but by half-time, he was in too much pain, so we will have to wait and see.
“We are hopeful [it’s weeks instead of months]. As I mentioned, we need to conduct another scan to determine the true severity of the injury, but it doesn’t seem too serious.”
Regarding whether Madueke has undergone a scan yet, Arteta informed reporters on Friday: “No, not yet.”
Anticipated return date: November.
Gabriel Jesus
Gabriel Jesus
Jesus is still unavailable after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury at the beginning of the year. The 28-year-old forward has intensified his rehabilitation efforts in recent weeks, but he may not be ready to return until the holiday season.
What Arteta has stated: “He underwent significant surgery that would require many months for recovery.
After consulting with the medical team and considering our schedule, we estimated that he could be available between December and January, which led us to make that decision, similar to what we have done with other players in the past.
We hope we are mistaken and he returns sooner. However, as of now, the timeline is quite clear.”
Anticipated return date: December or January.
