Arsenal has been approached with a transfer bid for Nketiah as Edu deals with a £26m challenge.

An offer for Nketiah has been made to Arsenal as Edu deals with a £26m challenge.

Arsenal have initiated discussions with Marseille regarding the potential transfer of Eddie Nketiah, as the French club has made an initial offer, according to reports.

Nketiah faced challenges in securing regular playing time during the 2023/24 season, as Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus were often preferred ahead of him.

Despite signing a new contract in the summer of 2022, Nketiah’s departure seems probable in the upcoming weeks as Arsenal look to generate funds.

Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna disclosed that Marseille has made an initial bid to acquire Nketiah, who is interested in joining the French side.

Discussions between the clubs are currently underway, including negotiations on personal terms for the English player.

Fresh from the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager, Marseille has also secured the signing of Mason Greenwood from Manchester United in a £26.6million deal.

With Nketiah also being a homegrown academy star, sporting director Edu will undoubtedly be aiming to secure a substantial fee, preferably higher than what Marseille paid for Greenwood.

The Gunners’ highest sale to date is Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, with Liverpool paying £40million for his services almost seven years ago.

When Folarin Balogun departed last summer, Arsenal received a guaranteed €40million (£34.3million) with a 17.5 per cent release clause included in the deal.

Despite Balogun’s successful season at Reims, Nketiah has multiple Premier League campaigns under his belt and a contract that runs until 2027, giving Arsenal a clear advantage.

At the very least, considering the cost of Greenwood, Arsenal will certainly be looking to sell for no less than £26million.

The 25-year-old featured in a pre-season friendly against Leyton Orient on Saturday, a match that the Gunners won 2-0.
