Arsenal ‘agree’ £55m deal for seventh signing as ‘terrific’ star ‘excited’ to join…
Arsenal has reportedly reached an agreement for a £55m deal to secure their seventh signing, with the ‘terrific’ star expressing excitement about joining the club.
According to reports, Arsenal has finalized a deal for Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace; however, there is a complication delaying the transfer, as another source suggests that Tottenham Hotspur may jeopardize the Gunners’ chances of acquiring the attacking midfielder.
After narrowly missing out on the Premier League title to Liverpool last season, Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta have been proactive in the summer transfer market.
The club has already made six significant signings, including Kepa Arrizabalaga and Noni Madueke from Chelsea, as well as Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, and Viktor Gyokeres from Real Sociedad, Brentford, Valencia, and Sporting CP, respectively.
Despite boasting a wealth of attacking options, Arsenal continues to seek additional talent, with Eze being a primary target.
On July 24, TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent, Fraser Fletcher, reported that Arsenal is eager to finalize a summer deal for Eze and has presented him with an offer.
At that time, sources informed TEAMtalk that Eze was pleased with Arsenal’s proposal, and later reports indicated that the attacking midfielder has settled on personal terms with the north London side.
According to The London Evening Standard, Eze’s release clause of £68m (€78m, $90.4m) in his Palace contract is set to expire on August 15, but Arsenal remains unfazed and intends to secure him for a lower fee.
Football Transfers reported on July 26 that Eze has an agreement with Arsenal, and the same outlet has now stated that the north London club has reached a fee agreement with Palace for the 27-year-old, who has been characterized as “terrific” and “a top player” by former Gunners defender Mikael Silvestre in Hajper.
As reported by Football Transfers, ‘financial terms have already been agreed’ between Arsenal and Palace, with the Gunners set to pay £55m (€63.5m, $74m) to last season’s FA Cup winners for the England international.
Arsenal will pay £30m (€34.6m, $40.3m) of that amount upfront and are currently in ‘contact’ with Eze, who ‘wants to finalize a move’ to the Emirates Stadium and is ‘excited’ about the opportunity to compete for the Premier League and the Champions League.
The report indicates that the delay in the transfer being finalized is due to Palace’s search for a suitable replacement for Eze.
Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in Eberechi Eze. Arsenal is not the only north London club that has taken notice of Eze, as Tottenham is also a strong admirer of the 27-year-old.
TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent, Fraser Fletcher, reported on June 26 that Tottenham was prepared to make an initial payment of £45m (€51.9m, $60.3m) for Eze and pay the remainder of the release clause in installments.
Although Spurs’ interest in the Englishman had diminished, there is fresh speculation that Tottenham is once again pursuing the former Queens Park Rangers star.
With Son Heung-min having departed for Los Angeles FC and James Maddison facing a long-term injury, there is a pressing need for Tottenham manager Thomas Frank to recruit a new attacking player who can function as a number 10 and also play on the left wing.
Eze is an ideal fit, and according to GiveMeSport, Tottenham has made ‘enquiries’ regarding the Palace star.
The report states that Tottenham manager Frank has ‘already approved the signing of the England international’.
While the Spurs management is interested in Eze, they are also considering other options and have yet to make a definitive decision on whether to submit a formal bid for the playmaker.
