Arne Slot’s ideal Liverpool starting lineup with two fresh additions ahead of the upcoming season…
Arne Slot envisions his ideal Liverpool starting lineup for the upcoming season, including two fresh signings.
Arne Slot steps into Liverpool with a solid squad inherited from Jurgen Klopp, but he is already considering a few new signings to bolster the team.
When a new manager takes the reins at a club, it’s often during a turbulent period, with the previous manager either being pushed out or resigning due to lack of success. However, Arne Slot’s arrival at Liverpool presents a different scenario.
The Dutch manager is set to lead a Reds team that has already been revamped by Jurgen Klopp, who knew he wouldn’t be around to see the project through to completion.
Klopp has left behind a youthful and ambitious group of players, poised for a strong challenge in the Premier League next season, along with a promising return to the Champions League after a brief hiatus.
The Klopp regime has always prioritized promoting promising youth players, and Slot has a wealth of talent at his disposal.
However, new bosses typically aim to bring in their own players, and it is likely that he will be keeping a close eye on the transfer market. Liverpool’s team, led by Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes, will also play a crucial role in this process.
New signings are on the horizon, with a strong case for bolstering key areas of the pitch that may have let Liverpool down in the previous season.
For instance, injuries to Ibrahima Konate and the departure of Joel Matip were mitigated by the emergence of young Jarell Quansah. Despite Quansah’s impressive performances, including earning a spot in the England squad, there is a valid argument for recruiting a new centre-back.
It is worth noting that Liverpool has been linked with Lille’s highly sought-after 18-year-old talent, Leny Yoro, in recent weeks.
The young right-sided player is expected to make a move to a top European club this summer, adding an exciting dimension to Liverpool’s transfer plans.
It would come as no surprise to witness his gradual introduction at Liverpool, especially considering his young age. He could potentially alternate with Quansah and Konate in the right-sided center-back position, gradually gaining experience and proving to be an exciting addition to the team.
Playing alongside Virgil van Dijk would provide him with valuable learning opportunities. Additionally, Liverpool might consider bringing in a left-sided center-back like Goncalo Inacio to provide cover for van Dijk.
In terms of midfield, if Slot intends to replicate the successful 4-2-3-1 formation he used at Feyenoord, he will likely seek to sign a defensively-minded player.
Currently, Wataru Endo is the closest Liverpool have to a pure No.6 in the squad. However, players like Alexis Mac Allister and even Joe Gomez have been deployed in that position in the past season.
To fulfill this requirement, a specialist like Atalanta’s Ederson could be a suitable choice. His impressive performance in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen caught the attention of many.
Liverpool have been linked with Ederson’s Atalanta teammate Teun Koopmeiners for a while, as he previously played under Slot at AZ Alkmaar. However, they might find that the 6ft Brazilian better fits their requirements.
Slot has the opportunity to enhance the attack even further with a few strategic additions. Not many managers have the privilege of inheriting a team with such talented strikers like Mo Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo.
Slot must be excited about the prospect of coaching them. Similar to other top coaches, Slot will not focus on having a fixed ‘dream’ or ‘best’ XI. By making a couple of smart signings, he can guarantee that Klopp’s squad fulfills its potential.
Slot has the chance to strengthen the attack with some strategic additions. Few managers are lucky enough to have such talented strikers like Mo Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo in their squad.
Slot must be looking forward to working with them. Like other elite coaches, Slot will not aim for a fixed ‘dream’ or ‘best’ XI. By making a few clever signings, he can ensure that Klopp’s squad lives up to its potential.
