Armand Laurienté’s potential move to Sunderland may be back on the table – similar to the summer deal.

Sunderland has an opportunity to rekindle their interest in Armand Laurienté during the January transfer window if they choose to do so.

This is according to the latest reports from Tuttomercatoweb, which suggest that Laurienté is still eager to reach the Premier League.

The French winger was ‘on the verge’ of joining Sunderland in the summer, with a deal already in place with Sassuolo and approval granted for the transfer.

However, the agreement fell through within 48 hours. Although a deal for €20m plus bonuses was reached, Laurienté anticipated ‘additional financial compensation’.

Ultimately, he could not finalize an agreement with Sunderland and returned to Italy.

Attention now turns to January. Laurienté is still intent on leaving to ‘join a top club’, or at the very least, to play in the Premier League.

This remains his objective, and he is committed to achieving it.

Discussions regarding an extension of his current contract, which runs until 2027, have also definitively broken down.

Consequently, Sassuolo is looking to sell and is willing to let him go for the right price, which is approximately €20m, the same as in the summer.

The key question is which clubs are in need of a player with his skill set. Sunderland showed significant interest in the summer, and Regis Le Bris’ affinity for French players could make them a contender once more.

The opportunity exists, as both Laurienté and Sassuolo are eager to part ways after their previous attempt in the summer failed.
