Angry Jamie Carragher makes ‘untenable’ Arne Slot point as he calls out three Liverpool stars…
Frustrated Jamie Carragher raises concerns about Arne Slot’s position as he criticizes three Liverpool players
Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher shared his alarming perspective on his former team after their disappointing performance continued with a humiliating 4-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
Carragher indicated that Arne Slot’s role as Liverpool manager is nearing an untenable state, attributing the team’s poor performance directly to the players.
Liverpool has now suffered nine defeats in their last 12 matches, including three consecutive losses by three goals, culminating in the thrashing by PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night.
The pressure on Slot has intensified following a 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, which was succeeded by a 4-1 defeat at Anfield against PSV in the Champions League.
According to Mirror Football, his position is currently secure, but the team’s dreadful form suggests that may change soon.
I’ve spent considerable time reflecting on this, as I recognized the game was concluded long before the final whistle blew.
What you’re witnessing now is Liverpool in 2018 under [Jurgen] Klopp embarking on a journey towards greatness, followed by Slot’s arrival.
Fast forward seven or eight years, and the initial spark for Liverpool during that period was Alisson, Van Dijk, and Salah.
Currently, Alisson is frequently sidelined due to injuries, limiting his playtime. Observing Van Dijk now, he doesn’t appear to be the same player. Meanwhile, Mo Salah seems to have lost his edge.
I hesitate to criticize them, and I believe some of the critiques directed at them this season have been overly harsh.
In challenging times, we always look to our leaders to rise to the occasion. I have expressed my concerns about Mo Salah off the pitch.
I wished he would have addressed the Liverpool supporters in an interview tonight, discussing the players’ intentions and the situation in the dressing room, to instill hope for improvement among the fans.
However, I refrain from criticizing their on-field performances because they are absolute legends for their contributions, and it seems their physical capabilities have diminished, particularly in Salah’s case.
Van Dijk now struggles to assist his teammates; he requires support himself. This situation renders him a typical centre-back, much like I was at one point, and perhaps he is no longer superhuman.
Yet, they have contributed so significantly to the football club that I look at the others and ask: where is your performance? Can you only excel when they are at their best, or when they carry you? Last season, their performances were extraordinary, and everyone else benefited from that, celebrating league victories – they are all league champions, and that is commendable. But when they are not performing, where are the rest?
This is why I feel frustrated when discussing the manager. However, it is a reality, and changes may occur. Regarding the players and their current performances, it is simply unacceptable for Liverpool Football Club. I genuinely wonder – and I pondered this a bit last season – whether some of them possess the quality needed if Liverpool aims to secure the most prestigious trophies?
