Alexander Isak hints at a potential transfer to Arsenal, as a teammate confirms they had a private conversation about it…
Alexander Isak signals interest in Arsenal, with a teammate confirming that they engaged in a private discussion regarding a transfer.
Alexander Isak has indicated his interest in a potential transfer to Arsenal in the future, following a conversation with fellow Swedish international Anthony Elanga regarding a move to Newcastle United.
Isak’s discussions with Elanga about a possible transfer to Newcastle seem to suggest a cooling of any speculation surrounding a switch to Arsenal.
The striker, currently in excellent form, was previously considered a target for Arsenal during the summer, particularly after Newcastle faced concerns about potentially violating profit and sustainability regulations in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta appeared poised to pursue Isak, with rumors of a substantial £100 million fee circulating.
However, following the sales of Yankuba Minteh to Brighton and Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest for a combined £68 million, Newcastle appears to have alleviated their financial concerns, allowing them to retain their star forward.
Arsenal has long held an interest in Isak, having scouted him during his time at Real Sociedad, but opted against activating his £77 million release clause, which ultimately allowed Newcastle to secure his services.
The hopes of Arsenal supporters for Isak to wear their colors may have been further diminished, as Elanga revealed that Isak has been encouraging him to consider a move to Newcastle.
Newcastle made a significant bid of £35 million for Elanga on the final day of the transfer window, but Nottingham Forest remained resolute in keeping the winger.
Nonetheless, Elanga has acknowledged the possibility of a future move to Newcastle, sharing that he has discussed this with Isak.
Elanga mentioned, “Isak and I discussed it. However, I conveyed to him what I am sharing with you now.
“We have a strong rapport and excellent chemistry on the field. Nevertheless, I am bound by my contract with Nottingham.”
This exchange between the Swedish players casts further uncertainty on Isak’s potential departure from St. James’ Park to the Emirates Stadium, as he appears to be focused on persuading fellow players to join his current team rather than seeking a transfer.
Arsenal may still be lacking a dedicated centre forward, although this has not hindered their performance thus far this season.
The Gunners have secured two victories out of three matches in the Premier League, triumphing over Wolves and Aston Villa, before settling for a 1-1 draw against Brighton.
Arteta’s team initially took the lead with a goal from Kai Havertz, but a controversial red card issued to Declan Rice allowed Brighton to regain momentum, leading to an equalizer from Joao Pedro shortly thereafter.
Arsenal will have a prime opportunity to rectify this outcome after the international break when they face Tottenham in a north London derby on Sunday.
