Arsenal supporters are calling for Mikel Arteta to bench two players following the defeat to Newcastle, expressing their frustration…
Arsenal supporters are urging Mikel Arteta to exclude two players from the lineup following the team’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
Following the disappointing result against Newcastle, Arsenal fans are pressing Mikel Arteta to make a quick decision to exclude two players from the team, as they have reached their limit.
As the designated home team for the match, the Gunners were expected to secure a favorable result to carry into the second leg at St James’ Park.
However, Newcastle delivered an impressive performance, taking the lead in the first half with a close-range goal from Alexander Isak.
The Magpies doubled their lead in the second half when David Raya failed to properly handle a shot, allowing Anthony Gordon to score from the rebound, making it 2-0.
Eddie Howe’s team executed a perfect away strategy, contrasting sharply with Arsenal’s struggles.
Despite registering 16 shots in the first hour, the Gunners could not find the net, with Martin Dubravka in goal for Newcastle only needing to make three saves during that period.
Arsenal continued to apply pressure late in the match but were unable to break through, resulting in a 2-0 loss.
Consequently, fans are calling for Arteta to reconsider the roles of two specific attackers for the upcoming second leg.
Supporters have pointed to Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli as candidates for exclusion from the starting lineup, with some even suggesting they should be sold.
One fan expressed frustration, stating, “Trossard and Martinelli should be let go; they are no longer good enough and consistently underperform.”
Another supporter noted, “Gabriel Jesus, our most in-form player, is being sidelined for Trossard and Martinelli.”
A third added, “Surely Sterling would perform better than Trossard and Martinelli did tonight.”
One fan succinctly remarked, “Martinelli… not up to standard. Trossard… not up to standard.”
Another concluded, “We need more capable attackers, including wingers superior to Martinelli and Trossard.”
