Andoni Iraola may feel he was left short by Liverpool’s owners and decision-makers as the summer transfer window slammed shut on Tuesday night.

 

The Reds had been linked with a move for a central midfielder this summer, especially after boyhood fan Curtis Jones departed for Inter Milan. However, the centre of the park is far from the only problem position in Iraola’s inherited squad.

 

Wide areas were addressed with the signings of Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz, but many supporters are worried about the state of the club’s midfield and defensive options. More specifically, the lack of options at right-back and defensive midfield.

 

Midfield Reinforcements Still Possible at Liverpool

While players contracted to other clubs are now off limits until January, the best free agents could still tempt the Merseysiders. Players who aren’t attached to another team can be signed at any point, and there are many big names who fall into that category.

 

If Iraola decided a temporary solution in the engine room was absolutely necessary, then there are some familiar faces who could still do a job. The Reds currently have four senior options to fill two positions in the XI. Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo.
