Arne Slot indicates a potential long-term solution for the No.6 position as Ryan Gravenberch issues a warning…
Slot suggests a sustainable resolution for the No. 6 position, as Ryan Gravenberch has cautioned.
Liverpool has chosen to finalize several loan agreements on deadline day, with Stefan Bajcetic being one of the players involved.
The Spanish-Serbian midfielder has joined Bobby Clark and former Liverpool assistant coach Pep Lijnders at RB Salzburg.
Slot acknowledged that the young player’s opportunities might be limited this season but suggested that his time in the Austrian Bundesliga could alter that situation.
“I hope this year will be significant for him because he possesses great talent, and I believe he can become a key player for us, but only if he receives adequate playing time now,” the Dutch manager’s remarks were shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Paul Joyce.
“For a young player who has been sidelined for an extended period, the most crucial factor is getting on the pitch.
“He could find playing time here, but with six or seven highly skilled midfielders in the squad, his opportunities will inevitably be more restricted than what we anticipate he will experience at Salzburg.”
A reporter from The Times added: “This move is aimed at the long term. The club has demonstrated intelligence by considering not just immediate needs but also future prospects.
Allowing him to go to a place where he is likely to play regularly is a wise choice, in our view.
“Next season, if he reaches his potential, he could certainly be a valuable asset for us.”
In other news, it was reported that Liverpool had expressed interest in FC Porto’s Alan Varela, but any efforts to secure a transfer did not materialize.
Considering Bajcetic’s evident expertise, a pertinent question upon his eventual return to Anfield—assuming he has received ample playing time—will be the implications for the No.6 position.
This inquiry presupposes that the performance of Ryan Gravenberch in that role throughout the season has not already provided an answer.
By that time, it should be more apparent how well our No.38 adapts to the requirements of Arne Slot’s system.
In an ideal scenario, we would hope that both players emerge as strong candidates, allowing us to approach the 2025/26 season with substantial depth in the holding midfield area.
At the very least, this situation serves as a reminder for our Dutch midfielder to remain vigilant.
