Liverpool forward sidelined for up to four weeks due to a new hamstring injury – report

Liverpool striker Jayden Danns is expected to be out for up to four weeks.

Danns is well-regarded by the Reds, having netted three goals in 10 first-team matches. However, the 20-year-old’s early career has been marred by injuries.

After his transfer to Sunderland in January 2025, a back issue was identified during his medical examination. Consequently, he did not make any appearances as the Black Cats secured promotion to the Premier League.

This season, Danns has continued to struggle with fitness issues. He sustained a hamstring injury that necessitated surgery, keeping him off the field for nearly six months.

The England youth international returned to play for the under-21s in a 2-0 defeat against Manchester City last week. Unfortunately, he was substituted within 30 minutes after going down and grabbing his hamstring.

Following the match, under-21s manager Rob Page commented: “He’s felt something. To what extent, we don’t know, but I think he’s done the sensible and right thing to do. He could have played on for the first half, but I think the sensible thing to do for his development now and for his future is for him to come off.”

Danns missed the under-21s’ 5-1 loss to Crystal Palace last weekend. As reported by This Is Anfield, the homegrown centre-forward is expected to be unavailable for approximately 3-4 weeks, and Liverpool is taking a cautious approach with him.

Had Danns been fit in recent months, he would likely have received playing time for Arne Slot’s team in the absence of Alexander Isak. With Isak out for the last three months due to a broken leg, Hugo Ekitike has been the only recognized fit striker.

Regarding Danns, Slot stated in January: “Jayden, if he would have been fit, he would have definitely been in the squad but unfortunately he isn’t and we don’t expect him back today or tomorrow as well.
