Arsenal could be on the verge of announcing their first summer transfer as Edu pushes forward with the signing process.
Arsenal’s summer transfer plans are progressing well, with the club expected to make their first signing in the coming days as Edu ramps up negotiations.
In July, clubs have the opportunity to make transfers under the new Profit and Sustainability Regulation (PSR) cycle.
Unlike other clubs like Newcastle, Everton, and Aston Villa, Arsenal have been proactive in complying with the rules and have not faced any last-minute scramble to complete deals.
While the Gunners have yet to secure any senior team signings, they have added Lucas Nygaard to the youth team after a successful trial as a free agent.
The club remains ambitious in strengthening the squad, with sources indicating that Arsenal are confident of bolstering their team before the end of the transfer window.
Expectations are high for the imminent announcement of Arsenal’s first summer signing. The club had the opportunity to make David Raya’s loan move permanent, with an option to purchase for £27 million after an initial £3 million loan fee.
There are no anticipated surprises in the agreement, and this period of calm coincides with the PSR deadline.
The upcoming move can be considered for the next round of deals. Raya is currently on international duty with Spain at the European Championships, where they have advanced to the quarter-finals against hosts Germany.
Despite the opportunity for Arsenal, there is no expectation of a Declan Rice-style deal involving a significant investment.
The club also has numerous players they are looking to offload, which presents its own set of challenges specific to Arsenal.
Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith Rowe, Jakub Kiwior, Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Thomas Partey, Sambi Lokonga, Kieran Tierney, Nuno Tavares, Charlie Patino, Mika Biereth, Aaron Ramsdale, and Fabio Vieira have all been rumored to be potential departures.
If Arsenal manages to secure significant funds from the sale of these players, it could provide them with more financial flexibility for investments.
However, this might have to wait until later in the transfer window. The team has various areas where reinforcements are needed.
As a result, any investments made will be distributed across the squad rather than being heavily focused on one specific area, as seen in the previous summer with Rice and Kai Havertz.
The lack of standout options this summer also decreases the chances of a high-profile signing.
Although things are currently quiet, the upcoming conclusion of the Euros and Copa America in a couple of weeks is expected to bring about a change.
Mikel Arteta has expressed his desire for early transfer activity, and now it is up to the club to make it happen.
