Fabrizio Romano has recently shared new information regarding Viktor Gyokeres potentially signing for Arsenal.

Arsenal is still in search of a new number nine, with Viktor Gyokeres being a name that keeps popping up.

After an impressive season in Portugal, where he scored 43 goals and provided 15 assists, Gyokeres is now looking to make a move to the Premier League.

Despite reports indicating an imminent deal with Arsenal, there have been no further developments since then.

Regarding this issue, Fabrizio Romano has provided some insight into Arsenal’s stance on Gyokeres.

The current reports suggest that Arsenal has reached an agreement on signing Viktor Gyokeres. Romano, speaking on behalf of CaughtOffside, has shared the information he has received regarding Arsenal’s interest in Gyokeres.

Over the past 24 to 48 hours, there have been rumors circulating about the deal being close to completion and in an advanced stage.

Additionally, there have been claims from Portugal stating that the deal is almost finalized. However, Romano has clarified that these reports are not accurate.

Currently, Arsenal’s negotiations for Gyokeres are not at an advanced stage. They initiated contact with the player several months ago, specifically between April and May.

Arsenal is aware of the conditions surrounding the €100 million release clause, as well as the overall cost of the deal including salary and other factors.

However, Arsenal has yet to determine their exact intentions for that position or identify their priority target. They are taking their time to carefully evaluate their options. Therefore, while Gyokeres remains an option, it is not something that is imminent or close.

It is unlikely that Arsenal will pursue Gyokeres for an exorbitant amount of money. They may explore alternative deal structures or consider different opportunities altogether.

An exorbitant sum for an untested player

Despite Gyokeres’ exceptional performance with Sporting, there remains uncertainty regarding his ability to excel on a more challenging platform.

We have witnessed the difficulties faced by players like Darwin Nunez and others who have made the transition from Portugal, and this may be a factor influencing Arsenal’s decision.

Undoubtedly, his strength, speed, and goal-scoring prowess are beyond doubt, and Arsenal would acquire a valuable asset they currently lack.

However, considering the hefty price tag of nearly £85m and his limited experience with just one outstanding season in Portugal, it is understandable why this deal has not yet been finalized.
