Liverpool have reached an agreement on personal terms to acquire the “unstoppable” 25-year-old star, which would mitigate the impact of Isak’s injury – report

An Isak resolution: Liverpool have settled on personal terms to sign a high-profile 25-year-old player.

Unfortunately, Alexander Isak’s inaugural season with Liverpool has been abruptly interrupted due to a leg fracture sustained while scoring against Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend.

The severity of the Swedish forward’s injury remains unverified, but credible outlets like The Athletic suggest he will be out of action for several months. Regrettably, this prolonged period of uncertainty is unlikely to yield positive news.

This season, Isak has struggled to find his form after his record-breaking £125m transfer from Newcastle. Nevertheless, his recent goal was executed with precision and elegance, leaving a significant gap that FSG and Slot must address swiftly.

How Liverpool intends to fill Isak’s void

A small comfort in this challenging situation is that Isak has not suffered an ACL tear. A serious knee injury would have sidelined him well into the 2026/27 season, severely impacting his athletic performance.

Another silver lining is the impressive form of Hugo Ekitike, who continues to shine. The French forward, signed for £69m this summer, scored his fifth goal in three Premier League games against Spurs.

However, with Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool also in doubt and currently participating in the African Cup of Nations, it appears increasingly probable that sporting director Richard Hughes will expedite efforts to secure a forward this summer.

The primary target? Antoine Semenyo, who is expected to leave Bournemouth this winter, attracting interest from numerous clubs.

Transfer expert Ben Jacobs reports that Liverpool engaged in discussions with the 25-year-old’s representatives last month, but they are currently trailing behind Manchester City and Manchester United in the pursuit. Tottenham is also interested, but they are considered outsiders.

Semenyo has a £65m release clause that is active during the first half of the January transfer window, and Isak’s injury is likely to change FSG’s position, with The Guardian reporting that personal terms have already been ‘agreed’.

Why Semenyo is the ideal replacement for Isak

Semenyo has been outstanding this season. There’s no denying it. A few goals in recent weeks have brought the Ghanaian winger’s total to eight goals and three assists from 16 Premier League matches.

As a versatile winger who has primarily played on the left side this season, Semenyo would serve as an impressive (and overdue) upgrade to Luis Diaz for Liverpool, helping to restore balance and collaborating with the in-form Ekitike during the crucial months of the campaign.

While he may not be a central striker like Isak, the Cherries’ star is still a remarkable forward, and he has only honed his skills since the summer.

Liverpool cannot afford to let one of their Premier League competitors thrive with Semenyo in their squad. Not when they are in dire need of such a player. He would be the ideal replacement for Isak, highlighting where Liverpool’s recruitment may have faltered this summer, as Semenyo is not a traditional striker but rather a dynamic and versatile threat.

His two goals at the beginning of the season nearly cost Liverpool at Anfield, and it was during that match that Slot and his team recognized the extent of Semenyo’s talent. Perhaps that was when he was identified as a target.

Isak has struggled to fit into Liverpool’s system this season, far from the impressive form he displayed last year. In contrast, Semenyo has made a name for himself as one of the top players in the Premier League.

Described as “unstoppable” by talkSPORT analyst Darren Bent, the dynamic winger possesses both strength and versatility. He is genuinely exceptional, and Liverpool needs to finalize a deal promptly.

This scenario is far from perfect. Nevertheless, Liverpool could significantly alleviate the setback by incorporating Semenyo into the squad, potentially establishing a more balanced attacking line in the process.

The choice not to directly substitute Diaz this summer was a misguided one, and Semenyo could serve not only as a replacement but also as an enhancement to propel Liverpool back to prominence.
