Liverpool looking to sign £43m forward who has been compared to Gabriel Jesus – Report…

Liverpool are currently in discussions to secure the services of a £43m forward who has drawn comparisons to Gabriel Jesus.

Arne Slot and Michael Edwards are actively working to bolster Liverpool’s squad after a trophy-less 2023/24 season under Jurgen Klopp.

Reports suggest that Liverpool are showing genuine interest in Benfica’s No.10, Orkun Kokcu, who previously excelled under the management of the Dutchman at Feyenoord.

In addition to Kokcu, Liverpool are also engaged in talks to potentially sign a promising Mexican talent.

Liverpool in talks with Matheus Reis

According to a report from Jovenes Futbolistas MX, Liverpool has recently held discussions with the representatives of Matheus Reis. The Reds are keen on securing his signature ahead of competition from Manchester City, Chelsea, Newcastle, and Monaco.

Fluminense, the current club of the 17-year-old talent, is reportedly anticipating a bid for him this summer. However, it remains unclear which of the interested clubs will make an offer.

A previous report from Calciomercato mentioned that Reis has a release clause worth €50m (£43m) in his contract with Fluminense. Therefore, any potential agreement with Liverpool would come at a significant cost.

Reis, who has already represented Brazil at the U17 level, is also eligible to play for Mexico as he was born in Mexico City.

Arne Slot has the potential to secure the signing of Gabriel Jesus 2.0. Reis, although not widely recognized due to his limited experience at the senior level, may be unfamiliar to Liverpool fans.

To provide some context, Reis has been compared to the well-known Arsenal No.9, Gabriel Jesus, which could help Liverpool supporters understand his playing style.

This comparison was initially made by Calciomercato, an Italian news outlet, who described Reis as a combination of the Brazilian international and the talented Benfica youngster, Marcos Leonardo.

Fortunately, Liverpool’s current concern does not lie in scoring goals. In fact, they were one of only four Premier League clubs, alongside Manchester City, Arsenal, and Crystal Palace, to have three players reach double digits in goals during the 2023/24 season.

Nevertheless, as evidenced by the rapid ascent of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo at Real Madrid, there is significant merit in acquiring a Brazilian prodigy before they reach widespread recognition.
