‘Payment terms’ – Simon Jordan makes Antoine Semenyo to Liverpool ‘done deal’ claim amid £65m release clause…
‘Payment terms’ – Simon Jordan asserts that the claim regarding Antoine Semenyo’s transfer to Liverpool is a ‘done deal’ amidst a £65m release clause.
Simon Jordan asserts that the claim regarding Antoine Semenyo’s transfer to Liverpool is a ‘done deal’ amidst a £65m release clause.
Liverpool is one of the clubs linked with Antoine Semenyo as the January transfer window approaches.
Simon Jordan suggests that acquiring Antoine Semenyo may not be as simple as it seems, even if Liverpool decides to activate the forward’s release clause.
Semenyo has kicked off the 2025-26 season in outstanding form, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 11 Premier League appearances for AFC Bournemouth.
The Ghanaian forward was reportedly sought after by Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur during the summer transfer window but opted to extend his contract with the Cherries.
Nevertheless, it has come to light that Semenyo has a £65 million release clause that will be in effect during the January transfer window.
Liverpool is among the clubs keeping an eye on the 25-year-old, who could potentially be seen as a long-term replacement for Mo Salah. United, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Manchester City have all shown interest.
What’s been said
In a discussion on talkSPORT, Jordan believes that there could be multiple factors involved in a potential £65 million deal that might deter Liverpool from pursuing Semenyo.
The former Crystal Palace owner remarked: “It’s intriguing. Semenyo had trials at Palace when he was 15, and they chose not to sign him.
“He spent eight weeks there and was not retained. Just because he has a £65 million release clause, don’t take it for granted that it’s a simple done deal in terms of being able to fulfill it, as there will be additional conditions involved.
There could be payment terms that instantly place the price of £65 million on the table. Additionally, there may be other stipulations from a top-six club that acquires the player.
It might not solely be the £65 million, and it may not be particularly enticing for Liverpool considering the fact that, despite my defense against the barrage of comments regarding their spending, they did invest £400-500 million in the recent transfer window.
Jordan indicated that Liverpool may need to evaluate their circumstances concerning Premier League profit and sustainability regulations to determine if they could pursue Semenyo in January.
The Reds invested approximately £450 million in their squad overhaul during the summer, although they mitigated a significant portion of that amount through the sales of players like Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Jarell Quansah.
However, the former Sunderland loanee is highly regarded, and Jordan disclosed that former Liverpool midfielder and manager Graeme Souness is an admirer.
Jordan further stated: “It may be challenging for them to make another move in January, not only from a financial perspective but also from a PSR standpoint.
I have been a fan of this player for two or three years and have had discussions with Graeme Souness, who resides in that area and follows them closely. He is an exceptional player.
