4-3-3 Arsenal line-up vs Sunderland: three changes made amid big decision on Viktor Gyokeres as Mikel Merino primed for another striker start…
Arsenal’s anticipated lineup against Sunderland includes three adjustments, particularly regarding the significant choice surrounding Viktor Gyokeres.
The expected Arsenal formation and starting eleven against Sunderland sees Mikel Merino set for another opportunity as a striker.
The Gunners will be without Viktor Gyokeres for their trip to the Stadium of Light, but Mikel Arteta has a capable alternative at his disposal.
Mikel Merino is likely to spearhead the attack once more as Arsenal heads to Sunderland this Saturday.
Arsenal is set to resume play against Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday, with Mikel Arteta’s team in excellent form and important selection choices ahead.
The Gunners will take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, aiming to capitalize on the fact that Liverpool and Manchester City are facing each other. A victory over the Black Cats would ensure that Arsenal extends their lead over at least one of those teams.
Gabriel Jesus, who was seen training, may not be ready to return, and with Viktor Gyokeres unavailable, Mikel Merino is expected to be in the spotlight once again. Mikel Arteta has multiple factors to consider before reuniting with former Arsenal player Granit Xhaka.
Currently, the Gunners are missing all three of their recognized strikers, as Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Viktor Gyokeres are all sidelined due to injuries.
In their absence, Merino is anticipated to take on the No9 role, having done so successfully against Slavia Prague on Tuesday, where he netted twice.
“He’s such an intelligent and competitive player that he can adapt to any position,” Mikel Arteta remarked.
“Because, first of all, he’s so willing to do his very best, to understand what he needs to do. He’s always asking questions, and he’s a winner.
“Wherever he plays, the only thing he wants is to win, to contribute to the team. And when you have that mindset, things normally go well for you.”
On Saturday, Arsenal will also miss Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard, while Noni Madueke’s participation is uncertain as well.
Backup goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is also unlikely to feature after missing the victory in Prague.
Riccardo Calafiori is anticipated to return to the defense, replacing Piero Hincapie.
Martin Zubimendi was absent from Tuesday’s match due to suspension but is set to rejoin the midfield.
Eberechi Eze found himself on the bench in Prague after starting the previous six matches for Arsenal. He will be looking to regain his spot in the lineup, taking the place of Ethan Nwaneri.
Arsenal’s predicted starting XI (4-3-3): Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Eze, Zubimendi, Rice; Saka, Merino, Trossard
Injuries: Arrizabalaga, Gyokeres, Havertz, Jesus, Madueke, Martinelli, and Odegaard.
Time and date: 5:30 PM GMT on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
Venue: Stadium of Light.
