Liverpool vs Real Madrid: Champions League match, latest score and goal updates

Liverpool welcomes the most successful team in the competition to Anfield for tonight’s Champions League clash.

This evening, Liverpool takes on Real Madrid in one of the key matchups of matchday four in this season’s Champions League group stage.

This marks the seventh encounter between these two European powerhouses in just four years, with Los Blancos triumphing in two finals and a round of 16 matchup during the 2022-23 season.

Nonetheless, it was the Merseyside club that claimed victory in last season’s encounter, a match notable for both Mohamed Salah and Kylian Mbappe missing penalties.

As they prepare for today’s match, the two teams are in very different forms. Liverpool secured a win against Aston Villa over the weekend, yet they have suffered six losses in their last eight matches across all competitions.

In contrast, Real Madrid has achieved 14 victories in 15 games under their new head coach, Xabi Alonso, and they arrived at Anfield after a commanding win against Valencia, maintaining a five-point lead at the top of LaLiga.

Moreover, they are one of five teams boasting a perfect winning record in the Champions League, but they are about to face what could be their toughest challenge in the group stage to date.

The return of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who recently transitioned from Liverpool to Spain, adds an extra layer of excitement to this heavyweight clash, as the defender is expected to receive a chilly welcome.
