Romano suggests a potential January departure for Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa

Fabrizio Romano has shared insights regarding the future of Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa.

The Italian player began the season strongly for the Reds, frequently making a significant impact when coming off the bench.

Nevertheless, he has struggled to secure consistent playing time under Arne Slot this season.

Previously linked with a transfer away from Anfield during the summer window, he ultimately opted to remain at the club to demonstrate his capabilities.

Unfortunately, his situation has not improved, and although the manager acknowledges the player’s form and dedication, this has not resulted in increased playing time.

Federico Chiesa is seeking more opportunities on the field.

Slot prefers Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo for the wide positions, and even amid the club’s recent struggles, Chiesa has found it challenging to earn minutes.

If his circumstances at Liverpool do not change, a January transfer may be likely, and Romano has indicated that he would not be surprised if Italian clubs pursue the winger in the upcoming January transfer window.

Romano commented on the Here We Go podcast:

“Chiesa’s season has started off unusually, especially since the initial plan at the beginning of the summer window was to leave, but then the situation shifted multiple times with Arne Slot and the management.

“Federico Chiesa’s intention is to complete the season at Liverpool and then evaluate his options in the summer.

When Chiesa publicly states, ‘I want to stay here, I want to compete for my position,’ it reflects his reality. Chiesa is determined to continue with Liverpool.

“Clearly, he has a strong desire to play – it’s essential for him – otherwise, I wouldn’t be surprised if Italian clubs re-emerge in January to pursue Chiesa from Liverpool. They may attempt it.

However, currently, both Liverpool and Chiesa wish to remain together. I don’t anticipate an easy transition in January, but the interest persists, and we must monitor the playing time over the next two months.”

Chiesa’s future at Liverpool is still in question.

While the player aspires to stay at Liverpool, his circumstances may shift shortly.

Chiesa is eager to demonstrate his abilities on the field and aims to rejoin the national team under coach Gennaro Gattuso.

With the World Cup approaching next year, Chiesa is aiming for a spot in the Italy squad, which necessitates increased playing time at Liverpool.

Slot’s management of the Italian winger has not been optimal. Despite the challenges faced by current players this season, Slot has failed to incorporate Chiesa into the team when it was the most opportune moment to do so.

The Italian has won the hearts of fans at Anfield due to his significant contributions, but regarding his personal career goals, Chiesa is dissatisfied with the way things have unfolded at Liverpool.
